Anyone doing this?b,121b,121I spent the downtime in my shop yesterday on the phone with voters in PA.b,121b,121It's real easy - just sign up online and they start feeding you names.b, 21b, 21b,121Would folks be interested in getting together today or Monday and getting up a Strutteur phone bank operation? I can supply print-outs with the script and numbers. If you bring a laptop, even better (we have wireless).b,121b,121Just a thought. Felt good to actually talk to some voters (most of whom said they were already definitely voting for Obama, and would we please stop calling them... haha) instead of just surfing teh blogs.

my boy was doing this at the Orlando HQ, talking to FL voters, said it was mostly Obama supporters also... he only had one odd call where a women claimed her friend was in POW camp with McCain and knows McCain sold government secrets to save his life, she wanted to know why this was not public information..

Many hilarious stories obtained. b, 21b, 21h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121My buddy Jon and I canvassed in Northern VA, getting internal info on likely/confirmed voters in Alexandria. It was actually a pretty easy canvas, as the apartment complex we were assigned was right around the corner from their local polling place, the people were actually the people on the sheet, and the ones who were home were indeed Obama supporters who were actually happy to spend some time and answer the questions. No debates, no undecideds who were irritated, no crazy looks, just a lot of people who wanted this election over in Obama's favor. It was actually quite a nice afternoon.b,121b,121The Alexandria office was abuzz with activity, and we got started late, after noon, but there were people showing up consistently, it was good to see.b,121b,121Please God, just this once....let this one be a win for the Dems!

I hate phone banking. I have been doing data entry for the campaign for weeks. b, 21b, 21Friday I went canvassing. Picked up one ballot (we started voting state wide by mail 2 weeks ago). That's how elections are won. b, 21b, 21At this point if you are canvassing or phone banking you should be talking only to be already identified as Lean or Support Obama. b, 21b, 21There might be some people making persuasion calls to undecideds or lean McCain, put that should be mostly over by now. b, 21b, 21Campaigns are not won with buttons and lawn signs. Nor are they won with tv ads and speeches. b, 21b, 21It takes people like us making calls and knocking on doors to win an election. b, 21b, 21I will volunteer again on Tuesday. My hope is to work at elections SE 11th and Morrison.

  • I phone banked today in SE Portland, 30th and Division. Lots of hang ups and people telling me they already voted (Oregonians evidently want this election over as much as I do)...

  • My wife and I canvassed on Saturday, went to about 90 homes, people answered the door at about 50, and 10 or 15 of those didn't know where they were supposed to vote. So hopefully we did some good. I may volunteer again after work tomorrow depending on what they want me to do. At this point MI in locked up, I wish they had us calling voter in OH or something.

  • I'm sure you can call OH. I got a choice between OH, PA, and VA. Check it out on the website.b,121b,121BATMON - we can do it up above 125. Holler on the PM img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pasue23is.gif" alt=""1/1 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt=""1/1b,121b,121You know I am not about to miss Harlem when they call this shit. Funny anecdote: so Rangel's people put up a bunch of signs with Rangel/Obama, by morning the Rangel grill shots were torn off and it was just OBAMAb,121b,121It seems cats do not forget that Rangel was for Clinton!

  • ^^ lol make sure to spark one/drink one if you come in sight of Bill's tower. 125th will be popping off.

I'm working for the Office of Elections on election day and also did for the Primary.

  • I volunteered for phone banking mostly to Nevada a few weeks ago with a bunch of folks. It actually was kinda fun and easier than the last time I did when Clinton ran for his 2nd term. Then again I was in HS and not old enough to vote yet, so I guess I was pretty self-conscious when it came to talking to random strangers.

  • Went down to Pennsylvania (Philly and Bucks County) for the week to help out with the Obama and Patrick Murphy campaigns (a couple of good friends of mine work for the congressman and the two campaigns had combined efforts in the region).b, 21b, 21No phone banking (I despise phone banking), some canvassing. Served as a driver for out-of-state canvassers, dropped off and planted lawn signs, ran literature back and forth between offices, ran menial errands.b, 21b, 21Long, long days. Understand the field organizers and campaign staffers are working their asses off right now. Any help anyone can give in a battleground state today and tomorrow is greatly needed, if only to relieve the people that have been working for the past six months to two years on this shit.b,121b,121There were a lot of canvassers coming from all over the place on Saturday and Sunday. About 1,000 came to the Obama Bristol office on the two days. On Saturday, we had to ask about 100 people to head out to other staging locations. Some of them had to be redirected a second time. Sucks for the volunteers, but it's a good sign that the level of volunteerism is so high heading into the final days. b,121b,121(It also helped me cut and hit record stores in Philly briefly a few times last week.)

font class="post"1b,121b,121Man, this is an ongoing problem uptown and when I want to see something on TV--usually basketball--I always end up going over by Columbia, which I don't want to do for this.

It is Columbia Haarlem. But i was there this summer and they had a TV.

  • Well, there's some place on 7th/116th called the New Harlem Sports Bar but I have never been there and have no idea if it (still) exists.b,121b,121Was just reading that Londel's has a screen at the bar... Lenox Lounge?

  • Also there's places like The Den and Revival... b, 21b, 21Sylvia's will be showing returns on a big screen. Don't know if they serve drinks.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Huh--I haven't been down there in a minute.b,121b,121Londel's is always good, but the bar area is pretty small--it's really just for people waiting to be seated I think.b,121b,121Lenox Lounge can have abrasively loud live music.b,121b,121Revival @ 126th used to have a big screen, but they got rid of it.

  • Lenox Lounge is rsvp-only and requires dinner and champagne toast... Sylvia's is rsvp but no food requirement... Londel's and Mobay are both hosting election-night with no requirements. Maybe one of those two. Also a couple community centers and cultural centers... but I'd prefer a bar.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Does the Den have a screen?b,121b,121I know they took the big screen out at Revival, although they may have a small one at the bar.

  • Upon further sleuthing, Mobay and Billie's Black look possible. Shrine on ACP/133rd is hosting something... Harlem 4 Obama hq is on 133rd/8th. Also apparently there is an outside jumbotron set up at Harlem State Office Plaza? That sounds chilly.b,121b,121I believe The Den has a screen.

  • OK, so maybe that's the best look. They're definitely showing the returns, I've read that on several blogs.
