I NEED TO KNOW! Future father in law was in town and going on about 10 boxes of records he took there and got $1700 for. WTF? Should I punch him?b,121b, 21In the plus column, his sister wrote 2 of Babs Lewis's hits on Atl. Has a reel of her singing somewhere.

font class="post"1b,121b, 21He would give him $.10 per for the good stuff, THEN taken the dregs to Amoeba. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/balla-22.gif" alt="" /1

I wouldn't have given him shit. He borrowed money from us the other month! OK, so it sounds like either he's talking shit or there were multiple sealed Westbounds in there. I think I know which.

10 boxes.b, 21b, 21If small boxes 1,000 recordsb, 21If orange crates 1,500 recordsb, 21b, 21$1,700 for 1,000 - 1,500 quality R&B lps from the 60s. Does not sound outlandish to me. b, 21b, 21My experience though, is people overestimate how many records they have. My guess is 10 boxes is actually 2 boxes and $1700 is $17.

font class="post"1b,121b, 21I personally have never seen a collection like that, and I've been to hundreds of peoples' houses who are of the right age and demographic to have collected it. People generally did not buy R&B on LP in the 60s (much more likely to find stuff on 45), and what they do have is usually common Motown records in VG- condition. The only people who are at all likely to have 1,000+ quality r&b or soul albums from the 60s would be modern day collectors, who would never bring the stuff en masse to a record store (one would hope not, anyway). Now, it's not all that unusual to find collections with hundreds or thousands of albums from the 70s or 80s, but the ratio of quality to very common is more often than not quite depressing.
