People do seem to have a very broad definition of what constitutes rock nowadays. Personally, if I was going to classify most of what's been mentioned in this thread at all, I'd call it club-friendly indie, but I suppose you could just as easily extend that definition to club-friendly indie-rock.b,121b,121Whatever. Here's a few things some of you might be able to use, if you're not already up on themb,121b,121MGMT - Kids (Soulwax Remix)b,121b,121object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="335" height="28" id="divplaylist"1param name="movie" value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=5642397-4b5" 21embed src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=5642397-4b5" width="335" height="28" name="divplaylist" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"1/embed1/object1b,121b,121The Dewaele brothers Cowley it up at bit on this one. I've not had an opportunity to play it out yet, but I like it, and I'm assured by friends who've been on it for a couple of months that it's a winner. Takes a while to get going. Only got this at 128, I'm afraid.b,121b,121David Gilmour Girls - Tune In Your Aurab,121b,121object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="335" height="28" id="divplaylist"1param name="movie" value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=5642489-5e3" 21embed src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=5642489-5e3" width="335" height="28" name="divplaylist" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"1/embed1/object1b,121b,121This is one that I've been playing out now and again, although it's a year or so old now and probably easier to catch on their "Vultures" album than on 12". It's a good mood-setter or transition record if you're off on some rock-dance-electro-disco vibe. There's a good remix by Michocan which is probably more club-friendly, but I like the way this one sounds like the score for a chase scene in some crappy 80s thriller, with the Moroder-ish synths and U2 guitar, and when it gets moving, it rocks pretty hard. 224kbps.

It's marketing, but dumb marketing, because I know a lot of people who don't put any faith in the term rock when it comes to new releases anymore, since so much of what is classified as rock is either dance music or leans on the emo/folk side of things.b,121b,121Real rock music is few and far between these days, harder to find than good new hip-hop records, really.

font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121Yup. Thats kinda why I threw out such a wide net. I'm open for some more traditional stuff, but all I hear these days is the kind of stuff discussed in this thread, besides the pop-rap-rock crap on mainstream radio. I'm sure there's other stuff, but I meant 'rock' in the most general sense.b,121b,121Thanks for all the suggestions people, lot to work with here....

  • What is Rock?b,121b,121As far as "rocky" stuff perfect for the dancefloor goes, it doesn't get better than WHITEY.b,121b,121He's (finally!) dropping an album late this year, but he has done a huge amount of remixes, pretty much all of which is solid.b,121b,121He had a track on the fourth Kitsune compilation called "Stay on the Outside". Highly recommended.b, 21b, 21b,121J
