While I was on the air today,b,121just after reading a tribute to Levi Stubbs and playing some Four Tops,b,121I got a call to tell me that Rudy Ray Moore had died, I hung up with thatb,121call to get another ringing line, which was someone else calling to tellb,121me that Dee Dee Warwick was dead. Man, what a bummer sequence of events.b,121b,121Anyway, Dee Dee may not have the fame of her sister, or the prolific outputb,121of some other soul singers, but she is truly one of my favorites. By far theb,121best version of "You're No Good" ... her "Got To Get a Hold of Myself" onb,121Blue Rock is amazing, and was covered by the Zombies, and her late 60's workb,121on Atco with the Dixie Flyers ("Suspicious Minds," etc) was all excellent.b,121She also sang back-ups on some very popular and amazing tracks. Surely oneb,121of the greats, she will be missed. Give her records a spin today in memory.b,121b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1b,121b,121b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1b,121b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1

Damn, this sad news. I really rate Dee Dee up there with my fave soul singers, "Foolish Fool" is a banger, also "Locked In Your Love" from her Mercury stuff. Co-sign on "You're No Good" & "Suspicious Minds" too. This has really put a dampener on the day. RIP.

  • 'It's Not Fair ( a href="http://www.nz.youtube.com/watch?v=JUh4kqYDnRI" target="_blank"1http://www.nz.youtube.com/watch?v=JUh4kqYDnRI ) is one of the best orchestral soul joints around i reckon... (is that a celeste that opens up the tune?). And man, could she ever sing.

A shame. She certainly had more soul than her sister, and she got far less shine.b,121b,121/font1

font class="post"1b,121b,121Yes. "We're Doing Fine" and "Do It With All Your Heart" are two other nice Blue Rock (a Mercury subsidiary) sides of Dee Dee's.
