Just dropped an even grand on a stack of heat coming from somewhere in Latin America:b,121b,121-Phirpo y sus Caribesb,121-Soul Fantastics LPb,121-Los Demoniosb,121-Los Dinamicos Excitersb,121-Bush y sus Magnificosb,121-Los Silvertonesb,121b,121(!!!)b,121b,121By far my biggest splurge yet
I have spent a little over $200-$300 for a couple lp's (Mulatu, Lee Moses, Four Mints, Ambassadors etc) I have a hard time going over $300...maybe when I'm making more money
Quote:/font1h,121b,121/font1Quote:/font1h,121b,121 we can go on and on about expensive records we got for cheap...how about the most yall have spent on that 1 (maybe 100) record you had no qualms about dropping loot on.b,121b,121h,121
b,121b,121I'm wondering what are the 12"s that you and everyone else here may have splurged on as a DJ? Serato may have changed everything, but what about before? Those records where sometimes a single song is so hot it just makes the loot moot.b,121b,121b,121b,121h,121b,121b,121b,121lorraine johnson/ bill brandon 12" on prelude stone mint unplayed $300 was the most ive paid for a 12".b,121Microwave hasnt really killed the market on disco 12"s at all. if anything the reason i think prices may have dropped on some disco related 12"s is because the loop of collectors wanting them...now have them.b,121b,121last thing i got was a $300 45...that to me sounds like $1k 45 2 sider modern/ disco thing from a mr.paycheck. cant find any info on that thing either..
i spent $500 on stark reality. but i sold 40 jazz records i wasnt listenin to anymore to justify it.b,121b,121spent $200 on joe pass-better days. always wanted to hear it.might get rid of it soon.b,121b,121lafayette-malik $140 two years ago, after passing up on it for $30 in 93 (seemed like WAY too much for a record).b,121b,121nicos gomez-ritual $250 at WFMU last year. had to walk away with something nice. i felt ok doing it after finding "Can i get a soul clap" for $1b,121b,121aposento alto for $250 + hells belles. mehb,121b,121$100 plenty of times. b,121b,121i never regret dropping loot, but the records i got cheap usually end up being more interesting.
$800 San Francisco TKO's "Acid Lady" (M-)...no regrets..someone will probably say I could have gotten it for less, but no one came off this record except for a friend of mine!
$456 Eddie Bo - We're Doing It (The Thang) I've seen it sell for much higher
$395 Three Texas 45s - Youthful Musicians "Brougham", Cold Fire 45 and a Lightmen Plus One 45, all raers...'twas a great deal
$250 Revelation Funk - Running 45
$162 California Soul Explosion 45 $125 Apple and Three Oranges - Free and Easy $90 Bad Medicine - Trespasser $68 Primevil 45 ..I definitely underpaid for that one, but that was the winning bid
mario castro neves & samba sa is easily one of the most expensive brazilian jazz LPs around but its also one of the tightest ive ever heard, the sambeco lp is deeper and i only heard of it because of sabadabada and loronix so thanks!
Droped 170 on Francis the Great- Ravissante baby/look at the sky 12". I'm a sucker for weird kids singing.
200 on a nice old screen printed Mellow sounds and systems- dub specialist because it was clean as hell and I knew I'd never see it again. Would drop similar loot on the other early dub specialist lp's in good shape, the covers are so nice and the dubs are just perfectly understated and cool.
Like others say, always easier with paypal credit but no regrets.
it sucks how you make make yourself stick to a limit but year by year that limit creeps upward.
Ha, truth.
I've been "lucky" insofar a lot of what I'm looking for these days tends to max out around $100 but the problem is that there's a lot of albums I want at that price, including stuff that I really don't feel like should be selling for more than $30-40 (certain cumbia albums, for example).
I guess I should just try to make a trip to Colombia and stock up for cheap (minus the travel costs, of course).

just spent $100 on a clean copy of The Escorts "Disco Party" 12" on April...i traded for it so it cost me much less...killer deep disco tune, very hard to find. why not?
Most I ever spent was ??80 on the Singing Principal 45 Women's liberation on Action. Though that was during the Brainfreeze phase for some reason though I would never spend that much on an LP, not too sure why though!
I would have to be raking in some serious cash to warrant that sort of purchase. I think the most I would spend would be on the Tenorio Embalo RGE OG, that's roughly $600.

THAT"S DEDICATION TO THA' GAME LADIES (on both parts)
actually i guess that makes it worth more than 1150.
no regrets, no remorse.
besides that, $100-200 many times...
might have paid more for Ritual two years back at WFMU. why not?
no regrets, no remorse!
