b,121ha ha, yeah I know, but it's a pretty handy term for describing instrumental rock of that era though, definitely if I think "tepid* surf" something along the lines of "Let There Be Drums", "Guitar Boogie Shuffle" variations should get your mind somewhere in the ballpark. That sort of immediate "pre-surf explosion" of probably the tail end of classic rock & roll instros. *not using tepid in a negative way.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Heh, kind of reminds me of when I used to work in a record store with a guy whose main tastes leaned towards 1970's jazz/funk like Roy Ayers and Donald Byrd...I was once playing the CD of Booker T. & the MG's Soul Dressing in the store, and he said he didn't like anything that band did from that era - it sounded like surf music to him...
Well, last night I bought Beat That $%&# Drum and The Beat Goes On, and of course they were cheap...I know a lot of people like this period of Sandy's career, but it's not doing too much for me. Not gritty enough...more like a northern soul/Austin Powers/shagadelic vibe, to me. Just when a song sounds like it's going to be half-decent, in comes these Herb Alpert trumpets that just turn the whole thing into mayonnaise. At least the Ventures, during THEIR "au-go-go" phase, held on to their rock & roll edge. So, I'm not sorry I bought these joints, but I won't be playing them much (if at all).b,121b,121I wonder what his best-of sounds like...
sandy nelson records suck...the only thing his records are good for is that occasionly there are some cute 60s chicks on the covers that can be harvested for a flyer or two...
