So weird - I was just thinking about his film work last night, having gotten back from watching "Appaloosa."

font class="post"1b,121b,121That sucks! I have just been watching "Harper" and "The Drowning Pool"....one of my favorite actors EVER. Sad, sad day.

  • Wow. One of the all time greats. The Hustler? Hud? The Sting? The Verdict? Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? A total Icon and about as good as a guy and gentleman as ever passed through hollywood. Rest in peace to one of the finest actors/philanthropists/Fig Newmans of all time.

RIPb,121Going to rent1out Harper and some of his other classics this weekend, the right kind of weather to stay at home with s couple of movies.b,121Our dogs love his organic dog food...

  • And a legend passes. Truly a class act throughout his career. If a bunch of today's actors has a 1/100th of his cool and smarts Hollywood would be1a better place.

  • Newman's Own has grown into a powerful and lasting expression of Paul Newman's generosity. The Company has generated over $250 million in proceeds that have been donated by Paul Newman and the Newman's Own Foundation to thousands of charities worldwide.b,121b,121r.i.p.b,121peace, stein. . . img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /1

font class="post"1b,121b,121That shit is so soulful, like Marvin. b,121b,121To me his is the great American actor. Obviously Brando is more influential. But for pure unadulterated chops and sustained excellence nobody tops Newman. Plus, he was the best looking actor ever. b,121b,121If you want to really see how good he was watch Empire Falls. He's close to 80, playing a haggard old bum. Newman looks like hell. He never got plastic surgery so you can really see him getting old. It's a very tense mellow drama and he's the comic relief. In just a few short scenes he steals the whole 4 hour show. Pure genius.

  • A true icon. So many great characters. Will forever be known for Fast Eddie, Butch & Luke. I personally took a shining to Sully & Hud.b,121b,121This country is run on epidemics, where you been? Price fixing, crooked TV shows, inflated expense accounts. How many honest men you know? Why you separate the saints from the sinners, you're lucky to wind up with Abraham Lincoln.b,121b,121R.I.P

At the Neil Hamburger show two weeks ago, he announced he was sadly retiring his "Why did Acacamy-Award winning actor Robert Redford stick his penis in a jar of Paul Newman's salad dressing?" joke out of respect. I didn't even know he was sick. :

I was just talking about him yesterday. My boss and I were talking about growing up in pool halls and I was telling him when I was 11 I got to play pool against Fast Eddie Parker, the guy they based The Hustler on. Such a good movie. b,121b,121RIP to a real legend.

Was always a fan of Newman - remember reading an article one time claiming that he was like the studio cleaned version of Brando which I thought was totally off the mark.b,121b,121Part of his appeal was that, a few roles apart, you never felt he was a man totally at ease with how good looking he was - there was a real torn aspect to his character which made him always extremely watchable.b,121b,121RIP.

font class="post"1b,121b,121In the right mood (for me, lazy weekend afternoon), most of the 70s disaster movies can be fun viewing, and you can't front on the cast in that one.b,121b,121these are the last two Newman films I watched -- both great, quirky performances from him.b,121b,121img src="http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/7618/pm01li0.jpg"1b,121b,121img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/09/Buffalo_bill_and_the_indians.jpg/396px-Buffalo_bill_and_the_indians.jpg"1
