  • My ebay game as slowed to a crawl. Thank goodness it's not my only hustle.

  • yeah, Ive gotten less than $20 on quite a number of evergreen $50 records...

  • The Financial crisis shit has been going on for a minute now. I don't see much of a change. Euroman & Japanese are still ballin out on raers.b,121b,121LOOKb,121b,121a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170263585307&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=007" target="_blank"1http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170263585307&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=007/a1

It's still the "down" season if you ask me. Shit doesn't really kick into gear until October.

Yeah I'm kinda with Raj. Plus if you're selling globally I don't think it's gonna put that big of a dent in things (that's what I keep telling myself anyway as I get this 150+ Modern Soul & Funk batch ready for Sunday! img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /1)

It seems a bit slow lately, but I hardly think the sky is falling. If anything, I think it might be more that the gap between "hot titles" and everything else has been widening in both directions for a while now.

font class="post"1b,121b,121This is exactly right. There's been a slow/steady dropoff in piecemeal1items which are now going for less and less. It's completely normal to find a big seller get $251for something and three other copies go either unbid or opening bid.1Rare and in demand titles continue to do well.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I have started so sell a 90% of my whole collection. What you say is true,b,121as i sold some 1k packages to a big dealer, who paid good but if you saw what heb,121got out of musically average records just by writing "private" and some pressing quantity ... it's just hillarious, as if i sold them myself (i don't do ebay anymore), i had got not 50% ...b,121b,121b,121Personally I am1quite1sure that this whole "via internet i can leave my local smell behind" thing is just a game1for some time. What you sell, another one will have on his list after your sale and so in the end there are more and more people going for the same stuff all the time first hypening things up for a short period but then heavily dropping prieces.b,121b,121And there has also been some heavy changes in the collector scene itself,b,121a LOT of guys only selling and if they buy something it's for 1/10 of value mentality.b,121b,121b,121When you say oversea1buyers you can bet that those have financial aims in mindb,121so the problem is not to have some good scores and lucky sales,b,121the problem will be to not lose confidence in what you are doingb,121(if done on a regular base), because you cannot surelyb,121calculate a certain income that will still be flowing next year by the same circumstances that you work today.b,121b,121b,121b,121So we all will meet in real life again,b,121the most to be1trusted thing in life is not digitaler hedonismusb,121but the1need for humans to be1in the middle of humans,b,121and there will be the place of business in the future, i am1sure!b,121b,121Ps. This whole summer/fall1sale number change has severly changed within the last few years, at least from my point of view making it not computable to rely on.

font class="post"1b,121In my opinion, it depends on whether or not the records you're selling are desireable to the buyers or not...I can always tell when someone is selling a bunch of ish they want to get rid of or if they're seriously considering the buyer...you can have great sales any time of the year - I thought early summer was going to be a terrible time, but with the sales I found I had a very captive audience (unfortunately almost all overseas buyers)...it also helps if there is some variety/mix of styles with your auctions...b,121b,121A friend of mine who is pretty successful with auctions might sell soul and funk 45s for one auction, and only garage psych and freakbeat 45s for the next...Your records don't have to be raers obviously (as you seem to agree), but in this economy1it does help to sell to a broader audience - including more and more UK and Japanese customers...Australian customers and German customers tend to spend a lot on rare or just desireable music too.b,121b,121To answer the1question, there are always going to be people who are tightening up on their wallets...but those people either don't want to pay a high price for an item they know they can possibly find digging, by trade or cheaper - or - they weren't too serious abt winning the auction anyway...b,121b,121just an opinionb,121b,121Sadly, at least on ebay, in my experience the American audience just isn't there like it used to be...back in the Goldmine era, pre-ebay, pre-internet days, so to speak

font class="post"1b,121b,121I doubt that. US has the bonus of being "cheap" due to a massive loss1in dollar,b,121that's nothing less than a trend thing. And ... maybe i am ignored (words should be clear) ... we have had our crisis1in Europe for years now, those Japanese bidders have long vanished too.b,121b,121b,121If the dollar as a currency continues to exist, you will be in a good positionb,121as the crowd moves where it's "cheap and easy". You could see that with Asia and you have seen that with Eastern Europe, who 's really having the problem are the people who are not able (due to a much too strong currency) to deal with exploding living costs. b,121b,121Another factor is the status of American music in a whole,b,121which has alway benefit from a strong marketing activity during the golden era of record sales (50s+?)b,121b,121b,121To speak for the European jazz for example,b,121prices have MASSIVELY dropped over the last years,b,121maybe it was just a hype, but maybe it will come again,b,121then it's a situation formidable to score in Europe.b,121b,121It's already a common thing to watch Eastern Europe dealers with huge listsb,121of all those kraut-treasury trying to score on record fairs,b,121they seem to have a growing scene in Russia- b,121anyone was there to comment?
