font class="post"1b,121b,121I havent read Going Sane, but Brian Bolland's pencils on The Killing Joke and Batman are fuskin incredible. The artwork is super tight.b,121b,121 img src="http://www.superpouvoir.com/Team/Marv/killing-joke-3b.jpg"1 img src="http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/joker 1.jpg"1 b,121b,121Ill check it though.

what are the good X-Men paperbacks

  • anyone who likes Y: The Last Man needs to check out Ex Machina.b,121b,121think of the political behind the scenes of Carcetti's character in the Wire, crossed with a bit of possible alien technology and NYC as the stomping grounds. The writing is absolutely top notch. needs to be a film asap.b,121img src="http://www.comicscreatorsguild.co.uk/nowreadthis/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/ex-machina-power-down.jpg"1

font class="post"1b,121b,121there are so many TPBs its crazy.b,121b,121i would recommend this...b,121img src="http://image.milehighcomics.com/istore/images/fullsize/98029811955.1.GIF"1 b,121b,121John Byrne/Chris Claremont during the BIG 80's run on X-Men that brought them out of secondary status.b,121b,121U can start w/ the early Kirby issues from the 60's.b,121b,121The Paul Smith run where Xavier is a Brood for a while.b,121b,121I stopped reading the XMen in the 90's. It got too flooded.b,121b,121There's a good run where Magneto takes over for Xavier which is pretty good.b,121b,121The Age Of Apocalypse was a big deal in the book.b,121b,121If u can find the Days Of Future Past from the Byrne/Claremont Run. That is a MUST HAVE. That led the way to Rachel,Cable,Bishop and all the fusked up timeline shit they can seem to shake since that story.b,121b,121The Forge era where Storm has a Mohawk is good. b,121b,121I was a big fan of X-Factor which was the OG Xmen team during the overdone "hip" Xmen.b,121b,121The New Mutants first like 75 issues are pure mutant comin of age/growing pains stories.b,121b,121X-Force was cool for a quick minute but was a reflection of the Big and Bold era. Big visuals weak story.b,121b,121X-Generation had promise like when the New Mutants came out, but it fizzled.b,121b,121I do not fusk w/ X-Caliber. Just plain derivative and extraneous.

It feels overcrowded and hysterical too much of the time for me. I can see why people like it though, it's just not my cup of tea.

  • Basically anything Grant Morrison does is gold. My favorites are:b,121b,121b1The Invisibles/b1 is img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lvl.gif" alt="" 21b,121Underground revolutionaries fighting the forces of evil with magicks and shit. This will blow up the back of you mind. Something like 60-70 issues. First TPB is [i]Say You Want A Revolution/i1.b,121b,121img src="http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a95/discordman/bin/The_Invisibles_V2_13_00AShadeScan.jpg"1 b,121b,121All-Star Superman/b1b,121Basically this turned out to be the best, most lovingly written Superman epic of all time. It just wrapped and it's a thing of unbelievable beauty. Completely essential in my mind now. 12 issues. First TPB is out, second one soon probably.b,121b,121img src="http://sexualityinart.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/all-star-superman-10-frank-quitely-grant-morrison-jamie-grant-s.jpg"1b,121b,121b1Seven Soldiers/b1b,121A sprawling, interconnected story about the DC Universe's history, taking some various "heroes" you've never really heard of or cared about. Different artists did different character's stories. It's glorious, complicated and time-spanning.b,121b,121img src="http://www.numbmonkey.com/SeanStoryImages/sevensoldiers0.jpg"1

Cosign on Going Sane. I never cared too much for The Killing Joke. It's much more violent and whatnot than Going Sane, but GS feels like it's an adult story on an intellectual and emotional level...something I don't really get from KJ.b, 21b, 21Crisis On Infinite Earth is definitely a pretty good comic universe epic, a fun spectacle, important for changes to DC Universe and all that, but is definitely not for someone who is just getting back into comics. I'd say 52 is a much more enjoyable read for a guy wanting a sprawling crossover that doesn't require a lot of back story and knowledge of the DC Universe to appreciate.

Does All-Star Superman really pick up? I've only read the first trade. I'm still learning, reading, and appreciating more comics from the 50s-70s, and when I read the first trade, it kinda felt like listening to a retro-soul group...technically proficient and not bad by any means, but one would be better served just raiding the bins if looking for a nostalgia kick.
