Dude says he likes the first two hits, so you recommend "Sweetheart" ?b,121b,121 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/game02vy9.gif" alt="" 21b,121b,121AlieNDN, if you like those first two hits, the first 3 albums areb,121filled with similar sounds, many of which are better than those 2b,121songs, as their original songs (especially those written by Gene Clark)b,121fit that jangly 12-string guitar sound even better.b,121b,121The LP pictured above is fantastic, a classic, but a totally differentb,121sound, basically a country album which helped kick off the country rockb,121movement.b,121b,121I would recommend checking their albums out in order, as they are a bandb,121that changed throughout the 60's, but the progressions make sense when youb,121listen in the order they were released. Start with the first album and go.

  • I love the Byrds, but their prime years, to me, were 1965-68. For the most part, they could do no wrong. By 1969, they were still good, but starting to slide a little. Not fond of their 1970's recordings at all.

font class="post"1b,121b,121You've never heard 8 Miles High img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" 21b,121b,121Anyway, go exactly with what Soul On Ice suggests and you must also buy The Notorious Byrd Brothers immediately.

  • Check out 5th Dimension and Younger Than Yesterday. But don't sleep on the rest of there stuff either. The Notorious Byrd Brothers LP is classic too.

You might find a few things on it that's good, and again it's not bad, but don't expect something amazing. Then again, you might.b,121b,121Farther Along[/b] is (at least for me) a more enjoyable listen than Byrdmaniax[/b], and pretty much the band on their last legs.b,121b,121If you end up liking the 60's Byrds, the early 70's Byrds is somewhat of a challenge to listen to, if only because it sounds like two completely different bands (and in many ways they were). Just make (Untitled)[/b] the link between the two eras of the group and hopefully you'll get a better feel for the transitions that were going on.

I gave "Ballad Of Easy Rider" a spin last week & it isn't as bad as I'd led myself to believe previously, but definitely start early & work through their catalog. Great band.

  • One of my favorite bands, but I love all sorts of jangly rock.

  • Buy in order, as stated. You have a lot of good music to look forward to.

  • I'm not a big fan of their earliest non-psych stuff but once they dropped acid they got awesome.b,121b,121FIFTH DIMENSIONb,121YOUNGER THAN YESTERDAYb,121are undisputed classicsb,121b,121as are the vastly underratedb,121NOTORIOUS BYRD BROTHERSb,121DR. BYRDS & MR. HYDEb,121b,121And of course if you like Gram Parsons or "alt-country" then SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO is essentialb,121b,121img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dominoes22.gif" alt="" 21

  • Anyone ever listen to the CD remasters w/ bonus tracks from a few years ago? The last extra on "Notorious Byrd Brothers" has some hilarious studio banter. The drummer doesn't like the songs and all the other dudes are on some "You suck and you're getting paid well so STFU and drum."
