plaese to help me production/tech dudesb,121b,121is there any free software for the mac which will enable me to type in a phrase and have it read back in a robot voice - but also record and save it as an MP3/wav?b,121b,121i know you can get Text Edit to read back to you but i only have one mac so i can't record itb,121b,121any help would be greatly appreciatedb,121b,121b

    You can use the speech setting in OS X (You can enable this by going to System Preferences > Universal Access) then from any app you can highlight text and go to Services > Speech and it will start speaking.b,121b,121To record this, try using Audio Hijack which can capture any sound coming out of your mac to mp3.

    what about a robot voice that sounds like the end of def leppard "love bites" or the voice that rides out at the end of slum village "forth and back" saying "what we will do...what we will do"1those are good robot voices, the other shit is played out

    what vocoder plugins are any good?b,121b,121microkorg vocoder? 6/10. 7 if you use a mike instead of the shitty built in one.b,121b,121orange vocoder? 3 / 10. weak sauce.b,121b,121tried using the ones in reason / cubase and stuff, funny for effects (eg using the sound of the ocean as a carrier, womans voice as the modulator = talking ocean). But not Harder Better Stronger is it.b,121b,121Autotune is *bleurgh* full stop.

    I'm sorry, but I have grown to hate this sound effect. I like Zapp's stuff and I could totally get1toasted listening Peter Frampton after rolling a "fat doobie", bro. But modern day, soft ass R&B guys doing this is corny as hell.

    The mac OS has 24 voices built into it and you can adjust the tempo and pitch in the VoiceOver utility. For those that are not knowing, highlight some text from this thread in safari, go to Safari > Services > Speech and click on start speaking text. I like alex, vicki and whisper.

I'm pretty sure waxbandit is looking for speech synthesis. It's the easiest, non-technical way to make some robot voice samples, although using a vocoder with some really gnarly synth sounds would probably yield a much more unique result.

    Most of the modern text to voice apps have 'natural' sounding voices. Not really what you're after I guess.?b,121b,121There's something called the "shit talker"1which emulates robot, martian ect style computer voices, but I think its only for PC. b,121b,121Doesn't fruityloops have a type and speak function?
