The problem is, it's a ballad. And not a good one at that.

Does the other side rock? I'm sorry for bein whatever about it, but garage shut ins don't collect poignant garage love songs.

I think that Sole Survivors track is pretty good ...b,121not the greatest vocal, but the guitar/organ breakdownb,121in the middle and at the end is pretty raw, and theb,121guitar sound throughout is strong. Not sure what the_nonb,121expects in garage ballads, but that's pretty decent, imo.b,121b,121I have a couple of Cori singles, the Balladeers one and oneb,121other that I can't remember - supposedly a couple of theirb,121releases are killer garage cuts, but I haven't come acrossb,121the real smokers yet.

font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121Hmmm...Is this the same "SpaceArk" that put out the self titled LP on Cold World?

  • mylatencymylatency 10,475 Posts
yup, that one is on Color World too, really nice stuff

  • picked up a decent stack of 45's at the thrift this weekend, mostly common soul 45's like james brown, jb's,some shit on motown, and others but amongst them all were 3 local gospel 45's, the ones on browntown aren't really gospel but funky synthesizer instrumentals that are pretty cool, the twin town 45 is cool as well and i never knew about it before finding it, soul heaven is pretty nice, also picked up a lee dorsey funky 4 corners, and a few lps, also grabbed a pioneer sk-550 boombox, some signed prints by an artist named gypsy lou webb, and a cool vintage shirtb,121b,121img src="http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e389/daleburback/img204.jpg"1b,121b,121img src="http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e389/daleburback/img205.jpg"1b,121b,121img src="http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e389/daleburback/img206.jpg"1

  • anyone have the lp on browntown? forget the name of it but it's on the browntown label from minneapolis? i would like to hear that if anyone has it, probably pretty decent if it's anything like the above 45's

  • img src="http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e389/daleburback/img204.jpg"1b,121b,121never knew Twin Town relessed any gospel, they seem to be known for white garage bands (although black bluesman Mojo Buford also recorded for that label)b,121b,121(it IS gospel, right? just covering my tracks in case it turns out to be their one secular number or something)

  • yeah it is a gospel record that is pretty good, i believe the group was from chicago though and recorded it here, anyway what did mojo buford record on twin town? i'm not aware of any recordings of his on that label

  • by the way have you ever heard of the three men in black on that label? never seen it but it's listed in the minnesota discography book, i'd like to hear that one too

font class="post"1b,121b,121offhand i dont know - i remember seeing a review of it in an old issue of Living Blues (from 1972; was TT still going, that late??)b,121b,121i think he was also on Garrett (home of the Trashmen) as well

  • i actually have that living blues issue with mojo on the cover and i just went back and read the article and sure enough they mention that he cut a few record for twin town, it's probably listed in the minnesota discography too but i don't have that around right now to check, anyway i've never seen any of his 45's on twin town, i'd like to find them though, i've never seen the garrett 45's either, i've got two of his on adell though that are really nice, one on folk art too that is alright, he cut one on bangar too that is decent but the adell version is better

font class="post"1b,121b,121Have you ever seen that Ray Charles At The Palladium elpee on Vernon? Two songs by Ray, eight songs by "Mojo & the Chi Four" - actually some Mojo Buford tracks used to flesh out the rest of the LP. Another Mojo track ("Whole Lotta Woman") appears on one of the volumes of Top Teen Hits on the Bud-Jet label; it's mainly garage and frat bands, but they dropped a solitary Mojo track right in the middle of it. (This anthology came out in the sixties, BTW; it's not a modern-day reissue.)

font class="post"1b,121b,121Rare - nice scoop.b,121b,121Rockaway had one of these on their wall at 500 bucks....and it shifted easily.

  • yeah i have that lp on vernon and i'm pretty sure the whole lp is mojo buford though i haven't listened to it in awhile even though the article says oetherwise, the whole lotta woman track your talking about on that old compilation is the same one issued on the bangar 45, he does a better earlier version of the same song on adell

font class="post"1b,121b,121nope, i believe ray charles had the first song on either side and the rest was mojo.b,121b,121both men had distinctly different styles - its pretty easy to tell 'em apart

  • your probably right then, i have the lp but only listened to it once, i had someone transfer it to cd for me and that's what i usually listen to, that person may have taken the ray charles songs off when they put it on cd, anyway have you ever heard the folk art lp, i've never heard the lp but i have a 45 from it and it sounds pretty good

  • Nah, I've never heard that Mojo record on Folk Art...I'd like to hear some more of his sixties-era stuff.
