  • Oh that poor little kid.

  • I saw it before. I think the kid was giving him a little shit about the hard metalish angle they were evolving into. Much more so than the pogo dancing punk a lot of kids were into.

font class="post"1 b,121b,121 Dude would be in his 40s nowadays and probably has a real cool 'dinner party' story to tell....b,121b,121b,121On a side note...anyone remember that Rolling Stone interview with ICE T and Henry Rollins? Done in the mid 90s?

font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121Didn't know what he was getting himself into. It's actually funny to watch him back track like he really wasn't trying to start touble. We all know Henry is a tough guy, the real thing to watch is the kids self implosion. "I'm going to tell Black Flag they are selling out....oh shit.....Rollins is 5 times my size and touching me!"

Kids got balls, unfortunatly they were up his ass.

  • Damn in that clip Bill Stevenson comes off like a complete neanderthal fratboy. I almost expected him to say "Sell out? Smell my finger bro!"b,121b,121Still - dude's got breakz for dayzb,121b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1

  • Henry Rollins sure isn't the easiest person to hang around with if you ask me.b,121There was an interview on dutch television somewhere in the mid 90's when he was just starting to gain some attention with the Rollins Band. If I remember correctly the interview went pretty deep and they asked him about relationships and such.b,121Dude's a workaholic and it seems there not much time for other things in his life.b,121b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1

We had to study some of his writings for a Text & Writing literature course at Uni. His poetry and spoken word stuff. Some of it was pretty full on, brutalesque imagery, lots of anger and angst but lots of real world wisdom.b,121He did a big 'speaking' tour years ago in Sydney. A mate of mine went to see him and said its was like going to 'a church for tormented hardcore souls'....

  • I enjoy Henry's humorist routine, admire his work ethic, and go to see him every time he comes up here.

I'm a Rollins fan, he works his ass off and that is really admirable, but he does seem like he'd be a hard guy to deal with on the regular. In his defense, putting up with kids like the one in the video for 25+ years would make it pretty hard to tolerate fools for very long. Excellent video...

Ha ha that was awesome. Kid asked a bunch of dumb questions and got the appropiate response

Read most of his stuff. Despite the image, he's a thinker first. Musically though, it's never floated my boat. It seems to be more of a theraputic outlet for him, rather than something intended to sell.b,121b,121So, accusations of sellout is some red-flag-to-a-bull bithnith.

font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121b,121I'll grant that Rollins thinks he's a thinker first, but have you read his books? One-dimensional and written on a strictly high-school level. b,121b,121b,121b,121That said, I've enjoyed the hell out of several of them.

  • Yeah, I can't read the books, but his live stuff is cool, reminds me of '60s acts, a seemingly more cultured time when people went out to just hear other people talk.

Yeah, Black Flag was better before him (in my personal opinion), the one book of his i managed to complete sounded like it was taken from a ninth grader's diary and talked too much about him masturbating into the sink (don't want to revisit that); and he can come off looking like a frat guy a lot of the time. b,121b,121I don't dislike him, just think he gets a little more credit that he should. Maybe people are afraid they'll get their asses kicked if they don't talk him up. And since when did he start doing comedy?b,121b,121That interview was pretty classic though, kind of feel bad for the kid - you know he just wanted to be considered "cool" in the eyes of Rollins/Black Flag. Instead he got his ass handed to him.

  • I will say that Get in the Van is a mostly-good read. His tour diaries in the old Spin seemed "heavy" at the time, also.
