Real silence and real life ambience (i.e. the sound of planes, bird sounds) are underrated.

I'm not fool enough to say they should replace music, but they are nice in their place.

I listen to a lot of North Indian Classical Musical. If you're into tabla check out Anindo Chatterjee, and Sharda Sahai. Indian Classical music's structure is pretty great.

For a while I was listening to 'folk' music from all over the world, and amassed a small collection of GAMELAN music. It's cool sometimes, but not all of the time.

Right now I'm digging African music of the 'folkish' variety.

I've also listened to a lot of work by the four American Minimalists, as well as John Cage.

  • Silence.

NPR. It's sad but true that I listen to news & information radio more than anything these days.

    TRUTH.

I listen to more 'All Things Considered,' 'Wait, Wait! Don't Tell Me!' and 'Marketplace,' (especially 'Marketplace,') than any record these days.

Dude. I can't believe you listen to the competing NPR station. You a Car Talk fan too?

I ride for post-punk and spanish classical guitar.

Yo, I posted this yesterday, but it flamed out...either way, it is an issue of reception. have a hard time getting WGBH Radio on my drive.

But, fuck a Car Talk. Hot garbage....

    Silence.

No point in fighting it, you are becoming that record store owner!

    Back to the topic:

I haven't bought any yet, but I'm feeling me some Hi-life. Osore's friend Ocita has some great stuff I've heard him play. Part of what I like about Hi-life is that it's not too afro-funk-rare-cool-dj-friendly or anything like that. It's a total departure from the DJ realm, or what's hot or trendy in the collecting realm (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong), and basically world's apart from anything that I normally listen to.

Despite not really following since high school, I still thoroughly enjoy thrash and death metal. I've recently been going back and checking for a lot of stuff from 1995 onward that I slept on once I really got into hip-hop and soul/funk/whatnot.

Oh, and I'm one of the big Iron Maiden riders here. They're not really a genre, but then again, they sorta are.
