Lalime's is real nice, but Rivoli or Chez Panisse are better.
Disagree--I definitely enjoyed Lalime's more than Chez Panisse. Panisse is good, don't get me wrong, but I have left Lalime's much more satisfied than I have ever left Panisse. Never eaten at Rivoli, though.
Yeah, I can understand that. I've only eaten at each spot twice, but Chez Panisse tends to try some strange combinations sometimes. The people who own Lalime's have a straight up Berkeley empire going these days - Fonda and now that BBQ spot on Gilman, all getting tons of business.
This thread is making me want to drive up this weekend.
Smokehouse is awesome... especially when you've got the munchies... BUT
it will attempt to make a break from your ass at unexpectedly rapid speed.
that walk-up counter, though. it always reminds me of the scene in Menace. whenever I am placing my order I always expect Eiht to roll up behind me on some "hey homie, you need some help?"
Kirala in Berkeley is some of best sushi in the Bay.
I ride for the Smokehouse on Telegraph.
Cha Am on the same block as Panisse got good thai.
I miss Kirala and Cactus. Need to open up a Cactus in Seattle, would put Taco Time out of business.
Oh shit! I used to work at Eddies Liquor store on College and Lawton -- I'd pretty much eat Cactus everyday for dinner -- Great place, terrible crowd (crying babies?). Acote also kills it, but it's too
I think I went there like 3-4 times a week when I lived out there. All the tacos are Couple of my homies down there tried to call me a gringo for Frickin' with it so heavy though. I pretty much am a gringo though so fuck it.

Add to that, lunch for 2 with wine cost $100. The whole experience was great. I'd go back to the cafe before i run to the classic downstairs.
