Now this is what I want yall to do.. If you got faults, defects or shortcomings. You know, like arthritis, rheumatism or migraines, Whatever part of your body it is. I want you to lay it on your radio.. let the vibes flow through. Funk not only moves, it can re-move... dig ? The desired effect is what you get When you improve your Interplanetary Funksmanship

Tryin' to put a size twelve foot In a size eight shoe (you know that won't do) It's like putting on a five dollar hat On a nickel head (It's about that hat rack)
I'm hard pressed to name a favorite P-funk joint, but I'll have to go with "P-Funk(Wants to Get Funked Up)" That was the first Parliament joint I ever heard.
I was a freshman or so in high school, and some of the more knowledgeable heads at school told me to get up on Parliament, and Mothership Connection in particular. I went to Second Hand Tunes and copped me a used tape of it (broke-ass teen-related) and checked it out on the bus on the way home.
I was not ready for that shit. The smooth groove, the raps, the endless quotables. For my young ass, that song was some whole new shit. Of course the whole album is fire, but as an album intro, it made feel like I was stepping into a whole new world. Which I kinda was, I suppose.
"That's the law 'round here, you have to wear ya sunglasses. So you can feel cool."
This album is special to me because it's the one LP I would always sneak away from the fam at my Grandparents house in Gary, close the front room sliding door and jam to during holiday visits growing up. It was my Uncle Tyrone's copy. He passed away before I was born, but having his records to listen to made me feel like I knew him well. I just recently upgraded to one in better condition, although I was pretty damn happy rocking his skated, skipping one for so many years.
Gettin' To Know You is one of my all-time favorite cuts.
"Baby, I looooovvve youuuu and the wooooorld that surrounds you..."
Also, does anyone here ride for P-Funk All-Stars Urban Dancefloor Guerrillas? I thought that it was corny at first, but after revisiting it a couple years later I have to say there are some jams on that one. "Pumpin' it Up?" whooooooooo.
