Vacation swaps?

Has anyone every done an apartment/house-swap before? I was thinking about doing one this summer for a week or so but not having done it, I have the usual paranoia, mostly that some lil dude is going to steal my raers while they're crashing at the pad. I assume, of course, there's usually some kind of vetting that goes on and what not but I'm curious to hear from anyone's direct experience with doing this and what kind of precautions to take. Thanks.

    worked for me. summer swapped a boston apt for a sf apt a few years ago to a person i met through a mutual friend. i basically left all of my stuff there (including records) without really taking any special precautions -- i just used the little common sense i have. she was uppity anyway, which in retrospect was a desirable trait.
