"We even have reports of the imprisonment of a Swiss man for 'possession' of three poppy seeds on his clothing after he ate a bread roll at Heathrow.

    Stick with sesame.

This seems a bit outlandish, aren't they going to deter people from visiting with such stringent lawing? Is this even real?

Im from the US and the closest I ever came was Turkey, but I'd love to hit up Qatar and UAE at one point in my life...

Maybe someone w/ a little travel exp can shed some light on this... I heard the only 2 muslim countries someone can go to with an Israeli stamp in your passport are Egypt and Turkey... I heard this from a kid I met in Latvia backpacking so I'm not quite sure. Hip me!

  • This exact same thing happens at the hands of the U.S. gov't, so you might want to consider packing up:

In another case, U.S. immigration officials alleging to have found what Mr. Greene calls a "crumb" of marijuana in the cap of a 30-year-old Canadian student told the man that if he paid them $500 cash and signed a document admitting to lying to border officials, he would not face a fine of $5,000 for attempted drug smuggling. A customs official escorted the Canadian through the airport concourse to a bank machine where he withdrew the cash, then to a currency-exchange counter so it could be converted into U.S. dollars, Mr. Greene said. (The student is now barred indefinitely from the United States.)

In 2004 I was flying home to Dallas from Zurich, Switzerland and had a little run in with Customs Agents. My flight left Zurich early in the morning and I had purposely partied long and hard the night before so I would sleep on the plane.

About 3 hours in to the flight one of the stewardesses woke me and asked if I wanted breakfast which I declined and went back to sleep.

About 4-5 hours later she woke me again for lunch. I asked what was being served and was told Salmon. Now I like good Salmon, but the prospect of eating airline Salmon was not too apetizing so I passed.

A little while later a steward comes over to me and asks if he can get me anything.....I explain that my wife will be waiting for me in Dallas and we were going out for Mexican food after a week of bland German food and politely told him no.

Then I noticed the steward and stewardess talking to each other while looking over at me and it just seemed pretty weird.

When we landed and I got off the plane I was met by two Customs Officers who whisked me into a room and started asking me all kinds of questions. Where had I been, Why was I there, Who did I hang out with.....the frigging third degree.

When I asked why this was happening they said. "You didn't eat on the plane". I was stunned, what the fuck did they care whether I ate or not.....then they said....."That's a sign that you may be smuggling drugs internally"..... they held me for almost an hour and then let me go without an apology.

Wow...Midnight Express meets Airplane! up in this thread

Seriously, when will people finally get with the program and realize that it's a just a damn plant and a relatively weak drug (in comparison to pretty much anything mind-altering readily available these days)? Frickin' religion, I swear...

    Customs agents hate me.

No matter how i dress, who i fly, where i fly i get pulled aside.

from being a a 23 year old backpacking stoner, to traveling for work and being suited and booted, to travelling with my wife and two pre-school kids, it really does not matter: Customs agents Frickin' hate me.

And the ones in my own bloody country are the worst.

shiiit, ive dealt with Dutch, French, German, Swiss, English (cunts), Israeli, Egyptian, Jordanian, Australian, New Zealand,Curacao, Thai, Hong Kong/Chinese and Hong Kong/English, Singaporean, Japanese, Swedish and Belgian airport/border security and have been pulled aside BY EACH AND VERY ONE OF THEM.

I have learned to laugh at it, i am always very polite and cooperate, but i would really like to know if i share a name with a bloody hitman or something, they always search everything, hold me in a room and then suddenly let me go.

  • Grooverider, One of Drum 'N' Bass' biggest names is going down for a loooog time then, they found weed and hardcore porn on him,

and judging by this local report they are wanting to throw the book at him

As an aside to being stopped, I'm half Irish and when I was little we went to Gibralter on a last minute trip which just happened to coincide with the year anniversary of the IRA terrorists that got killed on the rock. Seeing your dad frogmarched away by hard arse looking dudes with MP5s because he produced his Irish passport scared the living christ out of me.

  • Was that an article?

This is the actual article that was one persons reaction to his arrest

stuff like that can happen to you in countries like turkey too. a german mother travelling with her family got arrested for having a little stone from turkey in her suit case. just a regular stone from the beach!

also: kissing a girl in turkey
they met at a discotheque, the girl lied about her age, she took him (17 year-old) home and they ended up kissing each other. her mom freaked out and called the police. they imprisoned him for 8 months!!! actually, i don't know what really happened, but imprisoning him for 8 months without ANY evidence is crazy. the girl told the police that he did nothing to her first. after her mom talked to her, she never repeated it.

  • Man... im a huge stoner... look like a huge stoner... used to take lots of weed with me on the planes everywhere... never got fucked with. Guess i got lucky...

I dont travel with anything sketchy anymore... but really... getting continually searched and such? Always seemed like shit that I heard about but never saw.

  • Remember a couple years back when Dallas Austin got popped in Dubai for some extracurriculars and it took Oren Hatch and Lionel Ritchie to get him out? It's a great story...

I never eat airline food, but I'm white and handsome and no agent of the man ever suspects me of anything. Years ago I realised well after the fact that I'd quite unintentionally been flying across who knows how many international borders with a marble-sized ball of hash in my toiletry bag. Never encountered a problem.

  • All muslim countries aren't against weed. Hash is pretty much the national pastime in Morrocco...

  • Tiger doesn't have a problem when he rolls there.

  • woods?

  • Dubai is just a shopping arcade (mall)

    So fuck it...

This doesn't bode well for Grooverider though

    Dude, fuck dubai.

Anyone else remember when you could straight up travel around with like 3 or 4 ounces of weed on a plane and it was no problem?

I cant really think of any reason to visit anywhere in the middle east willingly. but especially not the arab oil baron's version of las vegas that is dubai.

Somebody needs to get those guys some drugs.

It was more random, but there was always a very real chance
of getting busted. There would be dogs at the metal detectors
just randomly. I definitely know people that got busted, they
would just get their bags checked for looking stoned.

Your avatar is killing it by the way. Why do I know that shit?

I guess tougher sentencing does have a deterrent effect...
