Best DISCO/Modern Soul Deejay

Figure I'd ask since the soul one is poppin'.I'm looking for:skills (mixing, phrasing, etc...)originalityability to rock a crowd w/o playing some ABBA crap disco i.e. play "obvious" shit then bust heads with some private bonerz jheri curl 12'' from like....Fontana, California.

    I'd say Cardova from the board, aka DJ Anonymous, is the best around my parts of the globe. Check his "Disco to get drunk to" series for a taste.

    Flawless blends, cosmic flow and raers deluxxe. All of it is proper deep disco & boogie not too many hollow private mind garden shits. Never seen him live cos I live in the wrong hemisphere. But I ride for each and everyone of his mixes on Deep House Page.

    I've heard such good things about Rahaan, really want to see him some time. Dimitri is def up there, but from what I've heard doesn't do all-disco sets that often (usually plays a lot of house).

    I'll let you know if I've got a new favorite after this party on Saturday...

    Dam Funk from Funkmosphere is a serious heavyweight when it comes to boogie and disco. LA heads should def come out to carbon on a monday and see whats up.

    Great One. Even though it's a few years old I just found it in early 2006. I'll check your other Sandinista joint as well.

    I nominate J-Rocc, even though his mix might be more from a hip-hop/old school classics p.o.v. his disco section on "Live at the Machine" basically MADE me like disco and start my hunt. He dropped Central Line, Brazillian Rhyme, Eddie Drennon and even obvious stuff like Boz Scaggs. But in 2000 this was completely mind blowing to me (Not Boz Scaggs, but just dropping that shit). I can even recall the first time I specifically went digging for disco and I lucky enough to pull the 12'' version of Central Line.

    Kon got it in with his last joint. On Track.

    I haven't heard or seen Dam Funk play yet but the few produced tracks I've heard by him I really liked. Hopefully his Stonesthrow material doesn't get overlooked by a ton of crappy Madlib rap shit or 4th string Dilla-affiliates

    He's a dope producer to boot. I heard a Podcast that he did in 07' with nuff raer boogie heat, really impressed me with his knowledge. When I come down to LA I'll check his night for sure.

    and dudes weekly is at a hole in the wall in culver city... like 50 people can fit in there at one time. Yet hes still touring and releasing shit through stones throw. dude is also one of the nicest guys in the record game. I'd recommend anyone to come out to Funkmosphere... shit is always mad fun. Plus Dam will school even the heaviest heads.... plus PB wolf just drops by randomly and drops heat for like 15 people. its sick.

    dimitri's disco forever mix on bbe is ridiculously good. Lots of clean mixing and re-edits. Joey Negro also...

    The Larry Levan live @ Paradise Garage mix on Strut is mandatory listening.

    The Jake One "AR Music" series of mix CDs are my favorite modern soul/jheri curl music joints. These CDs really got me deep into the whole genre. I was at Jake's place a couple weeks ago and he was playin' me some dope records that he said he wants to use for AR Music vol. 5! I hope he has time to put this together soon.

    BTW, while Rahaan is really dope, a lot of people here are saying its him, because they have not been going to hear disco DJs for 15 years or so. It's just that Rahaan is coming out of his shell now, in the internet age. So most people here have heard his online mixes, and he's started to get play overseas. He is REALLY dope, don't get me wrong, and he is most definitely TOP SHELF. Shit, I included him on my list too.

    The point I'm trying to make is, that there are plenty more dudes like Hippie Torales in the world, that disco newbies still haven't heard of yet. Djs that have been KILLING deep disco parties, and that are just as good as internet savvy dudes like Rahaan. Jersey alone has crazy talented DJs that won't ever post an online mix, so they would never make it to the top of an on-line "best disco dj" list.

    While I am sure some strutters here are tuned in like that, I think that there are plenty of others that just aren't informed enough "off of the on-line world", to really make an informed decision like that. Shit, over the years I've gone to so many parties in NYC and heard old disco dudes that are so good, and I don't even know their names.

    Now I wonder who these house heads favorite disco DJ is, considering they've probably heard a whole bunch over the years:
