First Trivia Question Of '08

I've decided to try a new format that might eliminate some of the Google cheats.Name the group....the cut is from an LP they released in the 70's although they have LP's dating back to the 60's.......I'll give a clue every hour until someone gets it.Winner gets a sealed OG copy of Parliament "The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein" LP

    Hmm... I'll give it a shot. Hope this isn't giving too much away, but this is straight from the AMG entry on the album:

    "In the 1960s they scored a few regional chart hits on the West Coast (one of which, "Peanut Butter," was released under the group name the Marathons), but never landed the national hit they sought."

    The Drifters also do cover of "Midnight Rider." Not nearly as good as the band in question though

    huh - I always wondered how that album was.

    Are the rest of the songs as good?

    How about instead of sending me the Parliament LP,

    I was laying out, although I didn't get it until the
    Okeh hint. I was thinking Moments or Intruders but '65
    seemed to early. I figured if we're on the third clue I
    can take a shot without being a trivia gripper.

    Class move indeed, but I'm not sure I deserve it. I lost valuable time with my mistake about the Marathons (I had no idea that the Vibrations were part of that 'Peanut Butter' business). The Okeh label was the tip off.
