while i may have not listened to a lot of the new albums that came out this year yet, that one gets my nod as best non-rappyrap album.

edit: oh yeah...this dungeon was pretty serial as well.

and yes, this might be my # 1. After initially not feeling it, I kept coming back to it in certain moods and found it very fresh, imaginative, and inspiring.

  • 7. King Kahn & The Shrines - What is?

I just saw King Khan & BBQ Show in New Haven ... they killed it.

this record is a serious surprise:

Here's a great review that sums it up for me:

King Khan, thee baddest French-Canadian Indian exiled in Germany, at least that we know of, returned in 2007 with yet another new album, here backed by an incredible eight-piece band, with a full brass section. On What Is?!, Khan channels Paul Revere & the Raiders, the Stones, the Stooges, Jacques Dutronc, Johnny Thunders, Dylan, and Sun Ra (no, wait til you hear "Cosmic Serenade") all in the space of one album, rooted in an authentic '60s style recording and gut-shot production values. Khan howls, preaches, and confesses like James Brown raised on Nuggets and Pebbles compilations, and if you don't love this record, you are sick of rock 'n' roll.

Dang. Just goes to show how I am from the good old indie rock scene, when Shellac can release a new album without me hearing about it.

One album that came out this year and was a disappointment: the Queens of the stone age album.
