Good music sounds played out after it's been hashed and cashed in and revived twice and been twisted and sampled and flipped and gripped over almost 40 years.
Man, I forgot how many bad looks were in this thread.
I'd say I don't like "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" - though I think, at this point, it's impossible for me to detach any experience of this song from the California Raisons. Blame the ad men.
That said - the song doesn't "suck." Suck means you think something is hot garbage and I can't point to very many songs on this list above that truly suck.
Huge cosign on the idea that hating Run DMC is like hating hip-hop. Again, "not loving" Run DMC is fine but thinking they suck? GTFOOHWTBS.
Cosign on "Rappers Delight" sucking. Song was massively important but otherwise, I find it rather unlistenable.

I think a better thread title would have been "Classics that you don't actually enjoy listening to."
After all, Run DMC has classics that, although YOU may not really wanna listen to anymore, you could never say "suck" due to the obvious historical weight and influence. Suck is too all-encompassing an adjective to apply to important music that you think sounds bad.
Might I add, after reading back through this boil on the ass of the strut, that hating on the 900 number is, in the words of the great Vizzini, "IN-CON-CEIVABLE!!!!". Shit is like hating on puppies or a some good head-wops when you wake up in the morning. There is perhaps nothing in the world better than the 900 Number.
I think you posted this on the wrong board by mistake.

Yeah, I just did that. Sue me.
I've tried several times over the past few months to get into this record and still don't see what the hype was about. I'm sure some record nerd could spend hours trying to school me on how it was produced but I still think it is a terd. Maybe it is just Brian Wilson's voice that I can't stand. Either way...

So loving Run Dmc and the 45 King somehow equates to riding for all rap music over a six year timeframe? If it makes you feel better, I hate Black Sheep.

I've been actually thinking of picking this up and giving it a fair-shot.

When that shit was new, it blew skulls apart.

It was the French commercials
I maintain that this thread is the most massively bad look soulstrut has ever encountered.
Everyone already knows that those two suck.
agreed, sampling from orphans is
however, that song is NOT a classic and never will be.
I dont ride for it but play it in NYC and cats will be mouthin the lyrics.
they aint have to strip to pay tuition

Deej poasts for chicks wishin' they ain't have to skrip to pay tuition--ma, he sees your vision!
That record is most definitely a classic, too.
