Some of the finer thangs from the last couple weeks' work.

The Klute soundtrack is dope. How do you like that Musica Orbis? The whole thing hold up well? I've only heard one track.

  • That "son of the soil" is pretty cool for the date (early 80s).

  • I like it a lot. That walked in with the Michael Garrick (top right) and I was really impressed by both.

    Troppo is really stellar.

    Nice.

I'm lacking a camera and my housemate's is broken, but over the past few weeks I've spent too much money picking up:

Lo Borges - S/T (The one with the shoes. Beautiful record, worth every penny.)
Os Carbonos - S/T (More good Brasillian music.)
Pekka Pohjola - Harakka Bialoipokku (Euro Jazz-funk with prog leanings. And no I didn't buy it just for the Shadow sample. Or the Blackalicious sample.)
Cradle and Crime - Can You Dig It (1988 Philly 1st grade girl raps. Futuristic beats. Props to Noz for putting this one up on CocaineBlunts.)

But really, I've been slacking on the digging this whole month and need to get back on the hustle. The drunken weekends just keep on piling up.

Got another Board Of Directors 12".

Damn! It's raining Board of Directors 12"s in NZ!

Only one record of note this weekend, and it's a double that's up for trade:

Does that say "soul strut special, $5.99" ?

    I'm down....

  • Hahah, soul SHACK. I have some solid third world label reggae titles with that same sticker.

Real headz know the deal about what track is on that SSS sampler ...
White Mice is completely sick ... sounds especially fresh in 2007 ...
Wanted the Arthur Alexander for a while. The MX-80 Sounds is wild,
and was a radio station copy that stuffed inside I found almost 20
OG flyers, posters, clipped-out reviews, photos, etc:

    Some other goods:

Can anyone give me an OG check on The Avengers??

I sold one recently, I believe it had a grey label. The very first pressing of this was colored vinyl apparently, so that'd be even more OG.

Yeah I was watching it with some friends and flipped out when I heard the break in the club scene. Someone told me that track isn't on the soundtrack though, is that true?

The flip of the Carter 45 is a great tune as well. "I Can't Leave Your Love Alone", yeah, I love that song also. I never had 'Devil Woman" on 45 before though. I have a UK 45 of his that pairs 'Patches' with 'I Can't leave Your Love Alone'. Clarence Carter is one of my favorite artists.

This White Mice Lp is waaaaaay better IMHO....

Check for it, it's not an easy pull by any means but be on the lookout.
Funny thing is that Popsike archive is my auction.
I write some seriously corny shit sometimes.

Yeah, I've heard the other White Mice, it's good.
But the track over "Eye of Danger" on this one slays
anything on either LP for me, if only cause I sweat that
rhythm. Besides, he covers Bobby Brown's "Tenderoni" on here

hmm, i sold my copy last week for 3 dollars. what did i miss in this record?
i listened like 2-3 times and wasnt all that impressed.
    is it worth anything?

fell like i made a mistake and already regret it. not the most common record also.

  • got some stuff on a hungover trawl round london's record shops this weekend before i was djing at the Notting Hill Arts Club (killer venue). saw loads of bits id been after for ages but couldnt afford any of them .. so i settled for this bunch of cheap crap:

theres some pretty breaks on the "steam" LP ...

the Nazz LP came in the post from the Soulstrut auctions --- i love toddd rundgren stuff.
the manfred mann sleeve is dead tatty but the swirl disc is fine -- at last a copy of this LP i could afford. great album.

the flying lotus EP on warp is pretty dissapointing -- i liked the last album a lot.

    the 7's are:

THE RED KRAYOLA - "wives in orbit" (bloody hell --- pretty mad!!)
SHOCKING BLUE - "mighty joe" (not as good as the other stuff ive heard from them)
SPARKS - "amateur hour" (ace song)

  • record gods treated me well this weekend:

    Sergio Mendes- Primal Roots
    Joe Zawinul- s/t
Warm World of Joao Gilberto (clean mono OG)
    Coltrane- Ascension (orange label stereo)
Howard Tate- Get it While you Can (promo copy)
    This is ssSlick- (stoopid braekage!)
Eddie Jefferson- Things are Getting Better
    Ramsey Lewis- Piano Player
