    Hey,

    Here are some:

    -John Robinson (Rufus; Quincy Jones produced LPs from late 70's/early 80's).
    -Mick Fleetwood (duh, Fleetwood Mac).
    -Hal Blaine (played on Bones Howe's productions during the late 60's/early 70's).
    -Walter Orange (Commodores).
    -Ralph Johnson & Fred White (Earth, Wind, & Fire).
    -Harvey Mason (session drummer for R&B/jazz artists).
    -Ricky Lawson (Brothers Johnson's "Look Out for #1"; session drummer).
    -Ollie Brown (session drummer for Marvin Gaye and others).

    Some might argue that Al Jackson shouldn't count because he is held in high regard. We would argue that no matter how high you rate Al Jackson it isn't high enough.

    check out this cover of Lee Dorsey's "Ya Ya", werent too many rock drummers holdin it down like this in '64...dude sounds like Jaki Liezbeit on meth. Relentless.

    Feeling you on the Gravatt / Bartkowski - I don't think Ndugu should count on this 'under-rated' thread though! Gravatt - classic drumming on the title track of 'Love Love' and I love the Urbaniak records with Bartkowski.

    Surely it was Harvey Mason on 'Look Out For #1'? And as mentioned, he's not under-rated - he's certainly my favourite drummer of all time!

    How about Dennis Davis for an under-rated drummer? His drumming is fierce on Ronnie Foster's Cheshire Cat album!
    And Gaylord Birch too - one of my all-time favourite drummers, check the youtube video of 'yes we can can' with the pointer sisters.

    Back when i listened to alot more jazz records I always used to check for albums with Louis Hayes on drums, he really seemed to get an incredible groove going all the time.

    Yeah, Gravatt keeps that funky 15/8 signature for 25 min straight. That type of consistancy with an odd signature such as 15/8 isn't easy, and those filtered hi-hats sound so fresh
