Okabayashi Nobuyasu- Datenshi Rock
and Matt here's a tune from that White Heaven LP I got in Tokyo.
White Heaven- Blind Promise
Okabayashi Nobuyasu- Love Generation
Is that Okobayashi one the album with just his head on the cover? I have a bunch of his albums, but not that one. Very cool.
there's a 45 of "Love Generation" on e*** right now, no bids of course.
Ive got to pick it up. Thanks.
Superstition
m***, I think you knew this one? Do you know the name of the group?
Pedro & Capricious... it's on their album that's got em in a field looking like hippies with a lovely blue sky background....
peace.
I think you got that at a 315yen bin in Shinjuku didnt you? I remember pointing it out (I think)
It's also on their greatest hits joint, but the OG is the hippie cover... 315 yen is the nice price, $100 on eGay ... There's literally a shelf of these at Disk Union in Shibuya...
Cisco Kid cover is decent on that LP too!!!
One day I'll get this album.
yeah, but you need it like this:
The obi makes it sound better
Dude hit me on the PM, I will trade Hawaiicommon for it. I have a spare here in the UK...
peace.
Such an awesome record. I got mine for 10 yuan in Shanghai! Thank you hip Japanese ex-pat who didn??t care about records anymore!

Thanks for posting that track, as I really dig Maki's debut (its almost all killer material IMO ) but I never heard this track before.
Funky Minuzu (whut up J) saw Maki live a few years ago and said she was real good.
Yeah, no worries. It's nice isnt it. It was from "Maki II"
Ive only just recently got into her stuff, but I like most of it.
But the only thing is, her singing on some tracks sometimes sounds kinda like an Enka singer which doesnt always do it for me.
I really like those simple, dark, monochrome, grainy covers on all her albums
Check this one out from the same record:
Asakawa Maki - Asahi No Ataru Ie
Wow, I'd love to see her live. I think she's still performing, isnt she?
Ill have to keep my eyes peeled for some gigs.
Yeah... I saw her in Koufu, Yamanashi-ken. It was a rather small intimate venue, but the place was packed. She was great... It was just her and a pianist for the show, but for some songs, he broke out some weird little organ. Anyhow, Maki is a helluva cool chick.
By the way, nice avatar... I found that record at Hard-Off, the pig still squeeled, but the record was destroyed! I kicked myself later for not getting it just for the packaging.
You know that PYG is Inoue Takayuki's old band... That was after the Spiders, right?
Peace...
FNM
Bummer! The original with the squealing pig goes for serious yen. Whenever Ive seen it, it's been way out of my price range. Ive only got the re-issue. Very cool album regardless.
The Pyg album was 1971. And Spiders, being a GS band would have been late 60's I guess.
I havnt really explored those late 60's Group Sounds bands much.
They seem a bit too pop (and usually expensive) for me, but Im sure there must be a lot of good stuff.
I havnt checked out Pyg's other albums either. Do you know them? Any good ones?
Damn it's difficult to keep track of a lot of this when you cant read 99% of it.
But this came in the mail (just a few hours ago actually) which is going to help a lot:
Yeah man I been meaning to sort out the tracklist for ages. Im a compleat slacker in that department.
But as I say to everyone if theres a particular track you need to know quickly pplease feel free to ask.
I thought some people might be interested in some of the pics.
For me, the priorities for this trip was local food and records. I had great success in both departments. Shrines, temples and castles took a back seat this time.
Of course I did have time for other things, not the least being the Nagasaki peace museum. An eye opening and humbling experience if there ever was one.
But onto some of the pics. Records are at the bottom:
Tonkotsu Ramen in Fukuoka (god this was so good):
Chanpon in Nagasaki:
Udon Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima:
]
A few random shots from various places.
Hiroshima:
Nagasaki:
Kumamoto:
Kumamoto:
I like to call this "Goldmine":
Cool shop in Kumamoto, but expensive as hell:
First chance to use this bag I picked up pretty cheaply some time ago:
Finally, the records.
I was lucky enough to be in town in Kumamoto for a record fair that weekend! I cleaned up on the Asakawa Maki's:
Some Jazz/Funk:
A different Maki:
Some Happy End and other Folk and Pop related stuff:
Flower Travellin' and Far East Family Bands, etc:
Some rare and not-so-rare 45's:
And last but not least:
And that???s real good luck visiting a town when the record fair is on!
But actually it wasnt so great, most stuff was really, really expensive.
I caught a break with some of the Asakawa Maki stuff and the onna bancho nagaremono (which had a scratch that didnt turn out to be too bad). But everything else I had my eye on was way over-priced. All the other pics (other than A.Maki) were from elsewhere.
