What are some good Soul Rock bands? I recently listen to stuff likeNoir3rd Avenue Blues BandThe BagTriflea lot. What are some good Soul Rock records with good singing? I don't even know if stuff like Demon Fuzz, The Albert or Black Merda fits into the same category. I'm talking about Rock records with Soul like singing. Maybe Blues like too. I have no idea. Is it Psych? Jazz? Prog? Garage?Well, I really like Noir best at the moment and would be happy for some recommendations on similar sounding bands. There must be MANY bands like that. Right?

I will probably be hated for this thread, but I think I can take it.
FUUUCK. ive been wanting that for years. im sure it'll turn up in the field eventually...
Rock w/ Soul Vocals?
probably yes. (i've seen a "soul rock" tag on records before! and i wondered what it could mean. but i always thought that it would be a nice genre )
soulish sounding singers singing to blues rock music
not too psychy, not too jazzy. like a good old rock record with soul singing. not so aesops fables like? i don't know. a more rockish archie whitewater?
most likely like noir on dawn. let's stick to noir then.
ive only heard about 3 cuts from them but it doesnt seem like it really fits with what youre looking for, seems more like slightly funky rock to me.
- opening track fits the bill i reckon ... or hows about:
first side is wicked soul yacht rock.
then let's call it true black man's funky rock
ever heard the 3rd avenue blues band version of "It's Your Thing"? records sounding like that. i know the singer doesn't sound like a soul singer. forget about soul then...
maybe crossover rock would be a decent description. rock bands that play funk, blues, soul and a bit of jazz. with singing.
White dudes who play "rock" w/ a "soul" vocalist?
Funk Band that rocks and sings w/ Soul? -
Mother's Finest
ur lookin for a type of Rock, not a type of Soul?
dudes w/ sing w/ soul but play organ heavy Blues Rock.
it's not that hard
Soulful Black Dudes covering Rock songs.
oh.
like that. bit more rockish?
why isnt my [img] functio nworking????

The Rock Workshop is really nice. "I Think It's..." kills it and "Street War Pt 1&2" are nice too. Especially part 2. Their first (self titled) LP is not thaaaaat good.
I also like Grootna. It's still a cool record. Not that bad.
I tend to leave the Black Pearl LP at record stores, although I see for very cheap from time to time. I never really listened to it.
would be much better without the sax
From that album cover, you'd expect it to be some lost heavy-rock classic ala Black Pearl or Blue Cheer, but then out comes this sleepwalking fusion jam...after seeing that long-haired guy on the cover, in triple exposure,[/b] I was expecting some serious SHRED! Didn't get it, either! Does the whole elpee sound all mellow and jazzy like this?
actually yea it does....but this is the standout jam. whatever about the sax....those keys are fresh....
Rock with Soul Influences & singing.
Shit just say it:Blue Eyed soul singers with a dash of rock ( guitars, some psych mixed in) and real mellow at times. And the band always includes one person of Latin or African descent.
Right up there with rockin' white piano men.
May you all get the david clayton thomases that you deserve.

Yeah, this list is too wide-ranging for the room, but that just goes to show you how dirt-common this "sound" was back then. Couldn't really call it a unified movement, that's just the way a lot of bands sounded. Some of these groups would go over well with the current jamband scene, if they were around today. And some of it is just as dirt-common right now. So get thee to a $2.99 bin and start digging. If the band has at least one white guy in a tank-top with a Jim Croce moustache and a Jewfro, then you know you've struck gold.
you started this. i got down to your level and you don't like it?
please excuse my ignaorance. all hail soulstrut. you know so much about good music.
