I never once said this is what America is like, I only said some of America, I cannot judge a whole country based on some fake tanned airheads from a part of Los Angeles, all I was trying to say is that the main medium being Television is what a lot of people around the World see what America has to offer to them and it influences them highly, how come we never had such empty and braindead shows like Zoey 101 (kiddie porn for pedophiles provided by the great Disney, I had to watch this while I was babysitting and was stunned at the premise and how wrong it was), Sunset Tan,A Simple Life and all of the "reality TV" bullshit in the 80's?.I just don't know understand why we are constantly given images and shows of superficial idiots that have nothing to offer the World from America, I mean here is a good example, Victoria fucking Beckham a talentless, stick with dumb fake tits that fell in love with the all of the vapid, camera whores and attention seekers, she admired them and became one of them and if you look at her ten or so years ago, she looked nothing like that and looked normal.You won't be taking all of those Gucci handbags,$450,000 sunglasses and piles of money when you are six feet under and rolling around in dirt, so what is the fucking point?.I will always have respect for the America that gave us the incredible art form and culture known as Hip Hop, there is just a side to America that I despise and wish would vanish.

As someone who has lived on one coast or the other my entire life, I've always HATED this knee-jerk and totally unsophisticated scapegoating of Middle America.
If you seriously think that all of the problems in our country come from the land bound states, you don't have your eyes open at all, and are basically guilty of the same mindlessness which you're so happy to accuse them of.

People are just people and will react to the stress of hyper-capitalism and class/wage slippage in similar ways. Materialism is an easily accessible band-aid to the gaping wound of poverty and financial stress. It just seems like the midwest is vapid because there is more wealth wealth concentrated on the coasts and in big cities. When folks are worried about whether they'll have a job tomorrow it's hard to have some deep philosphical introspection on materialism and the meaning of life. It's a whole lot easier to buy into some media driven retail escapism and bury your depression with credit cards.

True, a lot of things like for example the German legacy of genocide and terror in Namibia is just one of the forgotten parts of world history. There are still people in the UK who haven't got over the fact we don't have an empire anymore, and the legacy of Britain's colonial past is still evident to anyone who cares to look for it.
