This weekend every major media outlet focused their energy on the ???crisis??? in southern California, Lindsey Lohan???s DUI arrest. After indulging in the story for a few laughs, things got really serious when Headline News brought on addiction expert Joey Buttafuocco to weigh in on the topic. I suppose they thought he could offer some rational advice on how to deal with young ladies. Seriously though??????.Joey Buttafuocco. What were they thinking!!!???

    This had me ROLLING

Is the Dave Cortez the "true" source that Premier used?
That backing track is on at least 4 different tracks on
the SPEED label ... I know "Hippy Skippy Moon Strut" has
the horn/drum breakdown open and extended for a hot minute.

There's a dope vocal to this track on the Latin Blues Band album.

For all we know, Joey Buttafuoco could potentially be the real source of the sample. I heard he recorded a few singles on Speed........the label, not the drug.

All kidding aside, I've heard that Premier used the Dave Cortez version. However, "Hippy Skippy" or even the LP version could be the actual source. At any rate, all versions are fresh. I need to hear a copy of Latin Blues Band version. Do you have a soundfile?

  • Uh, while we're on the subject. Does anyone have a copy of the 12" with the DJ Format reedit that Fania released earlier this year? Shit done disappeared real quick.

    Sure:

I was thinking the Dianne & Carole LP on Speed had a track
that used the "Happy Soul" backing, too - but when I went back and
listened, I was mistaken. I own the LBB record, but I've never even
seen the Dianne & Carole offered for sale - I just have MP3's.

Here's a track from it, whose backing track is on the Moon People
LP as an instro, along with "Happy Soul":

(ugh - I forgot you can't post HTML in the announcements
section, so I couldn't use the embedded players, sorry)

Thanks for the knowledge. I appreciate it. Great tracks. The Latin Blues Band version sounds about 50bpms faster than the Dave Cortez version.
