Okay peoples, I hope you're not too sick of these yet, cause we got one more. Now we're talking sweet soul, the most saccharine of the bunch.
Rare or Common (you know how I get down)
Here are some favorites to start us off:
The Moments - My Thing
The Moments - Not On The Outside...
J.R. Bailey - Just Me N' You
The Montclairs - Dreaming Out Of Season
Dorando - Didn't I (45)
What else do you recommend?

Barbara Mason - Oh How it Hurts LP
Chris Bartley - Sweetest Thing this Side of Heaven LP
all i can think of off the top of my head.
Whatnauts - Message from a Black Man (+ probably everythin' that George Kerr produced durin' his run in the '70s)
The Fuzz - I Love You for All Seasons
5 Stairsteps - Ooh Child
Persuaders - Thin Line b/w Love & Hate (or the Pretenders' cover if you prefer - or even the Rick James-produced Process & The Doo Rags interpretation)
Spinners - Could It Be I'm Falling in Love? (or the UK David Grant + Jaki Graham cover, but that may fall under 'modern soul' so we'll have to refer to the Venn diagrams and see if the overlap is allowed... )
Mary Jane Girls - All Night Long/In My House (or does that qualify as 'modern soul' - see above)
And not soul, but sweet nonetheless -
Nightcrawlers - Little Black Egg...
...Congos - Heart of the Congos

-Almost any Walter Jackson prior to 1976 (anything during and after is "modern soul")
-Angelo Bond's entire Bondage album on ABC (slightly edgier, 'cause he's not above a li'l social commentary every now & then, but still fits the "sweet soul" profile)
-Detroit Emeralds (esp. from the 1971-73 era, although their sixties recordings aren't bad)
-J.J. Barnes

For an introduction or just general listening pleasure, check out the "Hey Love" 3-LP set that used to be advertised on TV back in the 1980s. ("No, my brother, you got to get your own "Hey Love.") That and the two follow-up compilations, "Dream Merchant" and "Always and Forever" contain a lot of great mainstream sweet soul.
Other no-brainers that haven't been mentioned:
The Chi-Lites: Give More Power to the People (Brunswick)
The Impressions: Young Mod's Forgotten Story (Curtom)
Black Ivory: Baby, Won't You Change Your Mind (Today)
Black Ivory: Don't Turn Around (Today)
Those who like Patrick Adams's arrangements on the Black Ivory LPs should also check out the Top Shelf's "Let Them Keep on Talking."
