I'm amazed no one has mentioned Al Green, who is about as essential as it gets when it comes to sweet soul LPs.
Black Ivory: Baby, Won't You Change Your Mind (Today) Black Ivory: Don't Turn Around (Today)
I will give you those Black Ivory LPs, those are most def excellent Seeet Sexy Soul...I guess I consider Al Green to be more in the vein of mainstream Southern Soul. yes he's sweet, but I guess in my private mind garden the Sweet Sounds of Sexy Soul are more urban harmony R&B with a different sound than Memphis stuff. Stuff like the Chi-Lites, The Delphonics, The Dells, The Modulations, etc.
-Angelo Bond's entire Bondage album on ABC (slightly edgier, 'cause he's not above a li'l social commentary every now & then, but still fits the "sweet soul" profile)
WORD. The definition of "criminally slept on."
According to the first Rolling Stone Record Guide, there was a second A.B. album called Free Spirit. Anybody heard it?
It's comparatively week. I'll hook you up with a CDR.
