Damn, I know it's summer and we're all relaxin' withour feet up - and that record porn can't live up to themadness of the in-the-club stories thread, but ain't ANYof y'all still buying records? Anyway, I got some shit:Found the Waxidermy "record of the day" at a yard sale yesterday, not too bad. Paul Parrish has it's moments, Wailing Souls is a yellowlabel US press (and a sick album) and MonoMono fucking shreds.Absolutely perfect US OG press of the Pink Floyd, what a great album, too.Big Joe came in a trade (thanks, Br*no!) and is pure fiyah ...Found the Patato in the field yesterday for cheap ... and Iwas trying to dig up the old TACKY FUNK thread where people werecrapping on the Nite-Liters ... I've had "Instrumental Directions" and thoughtit was "ok" - but this record seriously RULES. One of the best full-onfunk albums I've ever heard - I mean, I think 8 or maybe even 9 of thetracks on here are straight-up hard funk instros. That's pretty impressive.TACKY FUNK? NEVER THAT, SON.Oh, and I don't think I posted up these mailbox finds fromlast week, couple of eBay cheapies with some hot moments:AM I THE ONLY ONE?

Absolutley perfect US OG of the Pink Floyd, what a great album, too.

I see that Harvest logo, no OG

I think there were two different pressings on Tower first. Great album.

Always wondered about that Rare Earth, never seen it cheap.

yeah, "Rainbow Label" Tower is the US OG...UK OG has the couple on the back facing "East", for some reason they flipped the image for later pressings...

That Wailing Souls album is great.

Anal-Y-Sis is my favorite album by the Nite Liters, for whatever that's worth

I've had the Rare Earth. It's a tough one, for sure. I didn't dig it too crazy though. It's cool.

This was the first weekend in a long time that I didn't buy any records. Cashflow issues + frustrations w/microwave sounding like shit = no finds.

I need a copy of that Rare Earth still. And anyone who hates on the Nite-Liters is crazy. The only thing I hate about them is the damn Dynaflex RCA pressings of that era. Shit is like a borderline flexidisc it's so thin.

ha - I thought only the first LP was on Tower -
oh well, shows how limited my OG Floyd knowledge
is ... still, NM Harvest press for $15 works for me ...

Man, don't you know the times are CHANGING?? Nobody wants to buy records these days - it's just not in fashion anymore. There's this one record store I know that has had used copies of Ramp's LP going for $3.99 - unsold since January!!!

Get with it, Soul! You are SO archaic! The willingness to accumulate a plethora of vinyl has seemingly evaporated since it does not represent the crux of the typical Soul Strut lifestyle. The rest of us have relinguished our vinyl fixations and are now listening to sound waves being transmitted through our computers, as we do not wish to endure the necessity of being encumbered by the weight of physical possessions. We need to tune in to the ongoing dialogue of humanity and our souls.

That and a box of D-Con Roach Killer is all we need.

    Just a few things,

Flaming Embers- Sunshine (nice one tracker, at the least)
West Coast Pop Vol. 2- Breaking Through
The Tingling Mothers Circus- A Circus of the Mind (not quite up to the hype of the cover)
Dr. West's Medicine Show and Junk Band- The Eggplant that Ate Chicago (same as above but holy fuck is this album bad)

Everyone is buying off of the internet.
There's alot of shops in & around my city but driving to these spots burns up alot of gas. I heard one guy talking about how his sales have suffered because of the gas prices being so high at the start of summer. For me to score some heat I would have to drive 30 minutes to an hour through 3 counties just to go record shopping. And I live in Atlanta.

    Crate Digging Revealed

Hey Pickwick, I found a couple of HOT DISCO LPs with Rinder & Lewis very tropical and exotic

A Whole Darn Family sleeve - empty the vendor said someone came before me and took all the good stuff

And some cheapy soul 45s including Pickwick approved (???) Johnny Nash on Joda. Have 3 of his 45s on Windies label JAD and I am about ready to start an appreciation thread

Me and the boy Aleit found the ILL PRIVATE PRESS HEAT, the titles of which cannot even be mentioned as the resultant likelihood that your monitors would burst into flames constitutes a public hazard for which I am unwilling to assume liability.

    BUT SERIOUSLY...[/b]
Despite my goofy parody up above, I did manage to find some vinyl at a used bookstore on Friday, all blues:
    - Lightnin' Slim[/b], High & Low Down (Excello, ca. 1972 - produced by Jerry "Swamp Dogg" Williams)
    - Little Johnny Taylor[/b], Open House At My House (Ronn, 1973 - actually an upgrade of another copy I've had of this LP)
    - Joe Carter & his Broomdusters[/b], Mean & Evil Blues (Barrelhouse - I've heard some good things about this Chicago guitarist, and it looked like a good find for the price [$5]...yeah, a few of the songs he's covering are standards I've heard one too many times, but I'd rather hear a middle-aged African-American blues band do "Hoochie Coochie Man" in 1976 than to hear ANYBODY doing this same song in 2007)

Aw, they ain't about nothin', they're just ripping off Ethel Merman, who created disco as we know it!!!

A Johnny Nash appreciation thread? Hey, I'm down - legalize it and I'll advertise it! Seriously, he can be hit or miss, but when he's not doing the Johnny Mathis lounge thing, he's alright. Wonder whatever happened to him? After the seventies, he just disappeared all of a sudden...

All I found at the flea market was a sealed box of "YO MTV RAPS" cards for two bucks and a busted Ponderosa twins 45. Hammer had some serious marketing going at the time. Every 7 out of ten packs I've opened begins with a Hammer card.

not a crazy week but I did buy a jazz collection off some dude in Pasadena

    all old deep groove things

I was just about to post about how, after 8 years of digging I had never seen a copy of thsat Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Joe Williams LP. seriously though how scarce is this? seems to go under the radar a lot. That Ray Bryant Trio is some pretty serious business too

the Betty Perkins is a local gospel LP that I've been considering a secret squirrel with a great track called "Lay Down in the Water" for a while, now that I got a double I'm letting the cat out of the bag.

Juventud a go-go is aLlatin rock/ psych compilation, seems to pop up a lot in so cal but rarely do I find a copy this clean. That Rene & Rene was a pleasant surprise and I was really geeked when I got that creative source, but less geeked when I realized it wasn't the LP that has "I'll Find You Anywhere" on it. I'm only missing one of their LP's now so I'm guessing its on that one, can someone confirm for me?

I only found three albums of interest yesterday:

Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose-Greatest Hits (United Artists)
    Lamont Dozier-Right Here (Warner Bros.)
    Pink Floyd-Meddle (Harvest)

You can read about it in my music blog:
    http://jbookmusic.blogspot.com/2007/07/thrift-store-adventures-july-7-2007.html

Hopefully tomorrow I'll head out to the store I mentioned in this entry, with a number of albums I want to get before someone else gets to it. Most likely it will be untouched.

Found a Carl Perkins 78 on Sun (Blues Suede Shoes/Honey Don't) at a garage sale for $1. Pickwick - interested?

Got a crisp copy of "Liberez Angela Davis Tout De Suite" on Chant Du Monde. What does this go for? About $20?

Finally got a copy of Hayes Ware on CJ. Thank Jesus.
