You can watch these as sober as a monk, and you'll still be asking yourself, "what the fuck?"
Both pretty "out there"
described by one critic as 'psychedelic film noir'
cosign on 'HEAD'....crazy.
Dusan Makavejev's Sweet Movie and WR: Mysteries of the Organism
Roger Corman's The Trip
200 Motels
Otto Premminger's Skidoo
Nicolas Roeg's Performance, Don't Look Now, and Man Who Fell to Earth
Antonioni's Blow-Up and Zabriskie Point
Zulawski's Possession
Djibril Diop Mambety's Touki Bouki (African psych from 1973!)
Bill Norton's Cisco Pike
Marco Ferreri's Don't Touch the White Woman!
Ken Russell's The Demons
Roger Vadim's Barbarella
Daryl Duke's Payday
Jospeh Losey's Boom!
Yellow Submarine
these two get another
I`d like to add space is the place as weird "psychedelic" blaxploitation highlight.
add to this list:
Lindsay Anderson's "IF...." and "O Lucky Man!"
two films that push the mental/surreal boundaries.
That thing'll give you a seizure!
Absolutely.
Prime Cut's a wild Lee Marvin title from the same period, although not "psych" strictly speaking.
BTW, how could we forget Robert Downey, Sr?
Greaser's Palace, Pound, and Putney Swope are all psychedelic must-sees!
More explicitly psyched-up, and from the same writer:
99 and 44/100% Dead
That reminds me since I picked up VHS copies of it and the sequel this weekend: The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Pretty out there Vincent Price, as well.

I dont think dude updates or sells stuff anymore...but he has good lists and descriptions of obscure "psyche" movies.
Yeah, last time I tried to buy from him I never got a response and gave up trying. But I learned a lot from his site and got some good shit from him in the past.
Quick story about this one ... Peter Tork (of the Monkees) lives up in northeastern CT. He popped into a video store that a friend of mine manages. He had a girl with him and comes up to the register with Head in his hands.
So obviously he had an evening of 'impressing the girl' planned. My friend, being the 30 year old jaded movie dork that he is, wasn't about to make this easy on Peter.
So he asks, "What ... you're telling me you haven't seen this? Don't worry. Every time Stallone comes in here he rents Lock Up."
pretty much all of Coffin Joe's ouvre is pretty well psychedelic.
'Prime Cut' is disturbing in such a physical way, it's almost hard to explain.
'99 and 44% Dead' is great...when will this and 'O Lucky Man!' see DVD releases? It's not as if they were obscure in their day, or made by one-shot directors! I demand justice!
i heard crumb hated this, is that correct?
thanks for all the recommendations, i will check these, and if anyone knows about some more obscure psych movies, let me know.....
Yes.
