So, last summer, Douglas (love or hater him...i fall on the former side of the coin) gave a great piece of advice on how to go about selling records.Get drunk. Go through your records. Be ruthless. So, gearing up for the Sunday JP SOI 2nd Annual swap, I'm loaded; I'm flipping through the crates; and shit, I'm in a minimalist phase right now...But, damn. I love those little guys. My sell pile is much smaller than I wanted. A couple limp Charles Wright LPS I'm gonna sell for too little to some gripster because I want to move them and I'm too lazy to go eBay. But damn...I love those fuckers. Too many just sitting here for some reason.But. I AM loaded. So, I got that part right.

and pricing records, and I was having a hard time with
it. After I pulled everything and was going through, pricing,
there were a bunch that I was like "why did I pull this? I
like this record - I only pulled it so I can have good
things to sell ..." and put it back in my stacks.
Having the radio show hurts, because I would almost pull a ton
of fonky jazz or cheesy instrumental albums, but then realize I
really use that stuff as backround music on the show, and not want
to give it up. If and when I give up the show, there's gonna be
a REAL motherfuckin' sale going on!
Maybe I should have got drunk to do it?
Regardless, I did manage to pull-n-price nearly 300 LP's and
a whole pile of 45's, so it wasn't too bad ... I just expected
to have closer to 500 done.
I may try to keep a list going tomorrow, though- so, in the future when I'm fiending for XXXX, I know that in fact I do no own that record anymore- I sold it.
here is five that hurt....bad!
1)Arthur Verocai
2)Burning Desire"Why She Had to GO"(Really Hurt)
3)Mcneil & Niles
4)East Of Underground
5)Sabu Martinez "Jazz Espagnole" (OG Black)
sometimes you have to take one for the team!
Hell, the only thing that is going to hurt is moving these fucking boxes. My parents sold the old house and moved last summer, and I ended up with all their old dreck. Here's hoping some JP gripster needs to step up their Billy Joel/Poco game. Oh yes...Herb Alpert's whipped cream girl is in one box. I'm taken the thrift store to the mofuggin' swap, batches.
If not, i might just dump those in the trash. I'm so sick of this shit.
You might want to. At least, you can drop them at
Boomerangs after the swap if they don't sell - and they
probably won't. It's a fine line to determine what is good
$1 material and what is garbage that hipsters won't grip.
I know, i know...but I gotta try. Since we're leaving tomorrow night on a road trip, my goals are simply to free up some space in the APT and make some money for gas. $1 for the box has not been ruled out.
There are some decent things in there...but, a lot of terdacity. Maybe I'll make a sign saying, "BE THE NEXT CHRISTIAN MARCLAY! RECORD ART SUPPLIES! $1!!"
What is Boomerangs drop off policy?
I think you could easily bring a box or 2 or 3 to their
back door - they'll be open at that point anyway.
The biggest diappointment for me between the two swaps
last year was how much was left over the second time.
After the first one, I had sold around 2/3 of what I
had priced, and had a box and a 1/2 left ... after the
second one, although I had made some good $$$, I found myself
hauling 4 heavy boxes back upstairs and needing to make
storage space for boxes of priced $1 terds. I'm worried
that further dilution of quality, along with even more
sellers this time, will lead to similar results tomorrow.
I share your concerns. Oh well...at least it's a good excuse to get together.
Boomerangs accepts dropoffs from 12-5 on Sunday in containers that can be left at the store (box, old crate, etc.) So, that shouldn't be an issue.
How many sellers you looking at?
Um ... maybe 6 or 7 if everyone that says they want
to sell shows up. Hopefully my advertising has drawn
in enough customers. There does seem to be more interest
through Craig's List and the general population this time,
so maybe we'll all make big bank! But as you said, I really
enjoy it more for a meet-internet-heads-in-the-real-world
happening than anything.
Ah well...c'est le vie.
a big set sale (or 2) this fall ... I would price
some of it up if I thought people that are willing to
drop $$$ on good records were coming through, but I find
myself not wanting to put out records for over $10, cause
I can just see people getting all ass-wounded over a $30
price tag, even if it is in actuality more like a $50 record.
I did put some of this stuff aside, unpriced, as sort of a
"trade pile" but if dudes are like "where's the good shit" they
can check that stack and I'll name prices. But I'm not going to
go much lower than my set sale price would be, because those
prices are already very fair and I know I can get that money if
I hold out until then.
DUUUUUUUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I woulda bought the shit outta that.
ooooooh fuuuuck....... i feel sorry for you man, but that's life though...
how much did they pay for that verocai????
Small box of 45s, about 15 cds up for sale.
Loading the horseshit tonight; good stuff in the AM.
JP. Here we come, fooooooooooools.
Can't live in a record. Not even Arthur Verocai.
ok again this tiring bullshit......
of course it's great that he could buy a house, and of course you have to be a men and do what you gotta do....
BUT
you also gotta feel his pain for getting rid of these wonderful records
What is your problem?
Oh, of course...I thought I had indicated that with my earlier post saying, "ooff. That hurts". Or, starting this thread, about how i'm having 2nd thoughts on ditching Odetta- hit or miss (GONE, btw; vadjaj, i still have a copy i owe you.)
i didn't get pussy in the last two months or so.....
If anyone's gonna find all of those records again someday, it'll be Chris.
Fall back
THAT'S THE REAL QUESTION HERE....
no shit sherlock!
nothing, what's yours?????
Can you not assume - or better yet, estimate - what the homie got for his Verocai? I can't understand why it's important, but whatever.
Right on for the darkness
