mint reebok blacktop's from the salvation army in my size for $8.99! i'm guessing these are from the early-90s?
just one in the mail this weekend. but it's one that's been on the wantlist for about 8 years. i slept when it came out and have been looking for a relatively reasonably priced copy since then:
Three gigs in four nights (Fred Willard was at my gig Saturday at the Silver Spring Moose Lodge!) didn't leave much time for digging. I did snag this one Saturday for $3. Near mint OG still in shrink.
Great LP especially for 1977. Tough to find clean even here in DC.
highlights from the fleas ---everything between 25 cents (latin and indian lps -- i got tons more latin and bollywood stuff -- the ones posted are my faves of the bunch) and a dollar.

nuyorican soul & george benson "you can do it baby" 12"
Plaese to explain how this one is? I'm a big Benson fan.
Nuyorican soul is a Masters at Work record from 1996. MAW are Little Louie Vega and Kenny Dope, who are nyc house legends. anyways, they made this double lp where they paired up with their fave legends from jazz, soul, funk, latin music and made tracks. it's a great record, a bit of a classic now. you see most often the single for "runaway" which isn't that hot, but this track with George Benson is killer, just a really deep soulful cut...big "body & soul" sound to it if that means anything to you. and i didn't even realize that there was a 12" for "you can do it baby" until i found this copy which leads me to think it was a pretty limited release.
the Black Airport LP is a swedish compilation with a killer cover of Lyn Collin's 'Think'
part of this reply is fact and the other part is opinion...
fact: that record is swiss, not swedish. opinion: there is nothing "killer" about that track. it's the most butchered jbs cover i've ever heard in my life. it's kinda cool in a novelty way, but from a musical standpoint, it's terrible.
carry on.
Yeah, sorry - i was typing quickly and I really often do get swiss and swedish mixed up for some reason! You don't dig the cover though? Damn, each to their own indeed.
Funny, I was telling the owner dude at my favorite spot about how a bunch of "c*nts" on the Fryer Funk 45 board were bragging about how they bought all his copies of "Baby Don't Cry" off him a couple years ago for $5 apiece, and flipped them for hundreds...now, I guess I would do the same if it wasn't a guy I know, am friends with, hang out with outside his shop, etc...but then they started talking shit about him because after he sold them like 10 copies at $5 apiece, he wanted to hold on to a couple for his regular customers, they were straight bitching about dude taking care of his homies after cleaning up from him in the first place, being total "knobs" as some true funk 45 deep pocket collector bit*hes are wont to do...ANYWAY,[/b] so I'm telling him this story, and slip in a "so, you got any more "Baby Don't Cry" 45's socked away?" and he says no, he did sell them all but "I have a couple of the other one at home" and tells me he'll bring 'em in and sell them to me for $5...so today he finally remembered:
Word!! No monster break like "Baby Don't Cry," but still some nice heat for a fin!
Also, same spot:
And a couple other dollarbin jazz pieces, Michel LeGrand - Live @ Jimmy's Larry Coryell - Offering Some Exploito Secret Agent Theme LP with a dope organ combo version of "Theme from Star Trek"
Word?! I didn't even notice...wish it sounded more like the Wendy & Bonnie LP...a couple of good tracks on here, but, at least upon first listen, what seemed like a promising album mostly sounded like a Paul Mauriat LP at best...
Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens Band[/b] "S/T" (Capitol) Central Line[/b] "S/T" (Mercury) Loleatta Holloway[/b] "Loleatta" (Aware) - another want off the list Cold Fire[/b] "S/T" (Capitol) Lovesmith[/b] "S/T" (Motown) - crappy LP except for one majorly nice standout track O'Bryan[/b] "Doin' Alright" (Capitol) - I'll admit I was sleeping for waaaay too long on this Shadow[/b] "Love Lite" (Elektra) - this group is just nice...period
