^^it never even occured to me that there could be a Down By Law soundtrack till i
saw it. top left is a Teac multitrack demo thing. the Enoch Light was noteworthy due
to a Shaft cover + hot pants

^^friend and lover is nice vanguard stuff. somehow this is the first ive ever seen
that stevie album. Ol paint has some interesting tracks. the bottom row is
disturbing paranoia monologues, very shady conspiracy theory stuff from the 60's.

    ^^ these are all good.

^^ these are all good too.

HA! Xavion, they played many of my High School dances....our UPS dude that covers our shop was in the band as well.

Please to send the Red Crayola to Memphis plaese. Funny to see this posted, I had a conversation with someone just last night about them...Roky might be a bit looney now, but something tells me Mayo and boys were looney as fuck back then...truly disturbed sounds.

I used to feel this way and thought Shabazz sounded mad nerdy compared to real street rappers like LL and, er, Chuck, but I must have turned into some sort of weirdo coz I can listen to Pure RIghteousness on repeat now.

Oh, hey, I can listen to it on repeat - I'm probably more
able to get with Shabazz' mic style than most, I just feel
like those beats are so rugged, it would be nice to hear another
style of rapper over them. Shabazz is just so well-spoken

my best "find" of the weekend wasn't a record though, it was the 2nd member of Iron Knowledge that I've managed to track down.

it's the first time i've heard either album since high school...there's no doubt they're a killer band but sheesh a lot of those lyrics are cringe-inducingly juvenile.

"i can't say what i want to, even if i'm not serious"

    Yeah good point. Still though...

PS: Karlophone: Buddy Fyte Shreds! Sort of!
i know what cha mean. its funny how some records make you go "cool! ...huh? ...cool! ...wha? ...ugh! ....cool!"

HA! Xavion, they played many of my High School dances....our UPS dude that covers our shop was in the band as well.
you had much better high school dances than i. we were lucky to get some shit cover band to play bad covers of "the lady in red"!
the xavion is sealed actually... i was assuming it sounded like what it looked like - 1984 rnb. i assume its no crime to crack the seal???

Im never gonna find another red krayola around here (ive never seen one OG 13th floor elevators in this area evar for any price), plus all these records are solid minty. astonishing to see 'em practially unplayed. i picked up the roky solo bootleg shows recently too. he's just a very cool part of the recent/modern weird america. like wesley willis but with songwriting and guitar playing ability. Bless the freaks!

first time ive ever seen it period. side 1 is generally country-ish rock/folk but with that groovy funk undertone. cf. Area Code 615/buffalo springfield/etc.. But side 2 opens up strong. you can tell these were no ordinary barn jammers, theres some cool instrumentation and odd parts that kinda creep out of nowhere, almost prog-ish elements - with the B-3, etc. "somebody oughtta turn your head around" is a wicked track with a sweet breakdown. 'boogieman' has a nice spooky groove intro. "peace for a change" is nice too.

Snagglepus - you found the Pleasure everyone seems to be gripping for recently. I think thats their hardest to find for some reason.
    b/w
whats up with that Syl Johnson? is that on Hi? what year? Never knew that one existed.

Yeah, the Syl record is on Hi. 1973. Nice record ... I'm really digging the last track "The love you left behind". I'll post an MP3 at some point this evening.

And the Pleasure LP might be my favorite of the bunch.

That Ann Peebles (Straight From The Heart) is a killer too, and pretty tough to find.

Always thought the Fatback loop was one of the best ever samples though. That and the Lucky 7 one
    i agree with this statement

i play that track at my regular monday night punk, funk and soul gig here in St. Louis. the horns that kick it off are fantastic, and i usually pitch it up to +2 or 3.

My girlfriend & I took a plane ride to Christchurch to raid some different record stores for a change for the weekend. We both got some cool stuff. Without getting anything too jaw dropping I managed to fill a couple of long time wants, plug some gaps in my collection, pick up some stuff for resale & upgrade a couple of things. The LPs are pretty self explanatory but there are a couple of interesting 45s I need to research. Most of them came from a guy that bought up large when radio stations got rid of their 45s in the 80s/90s, I dug up a couple of choice 45s that he then wouldn't sell me but everything else was pretty cheap, although I had to treat myself to one $$ 45. I can also categorically state that there are now no worthwhile 45s left among the thousands that reside upstairs at Penny Lane.

Took the two of us probably 8-9 hours to do upstairs, absolutely nothing left now though, didn't touch the 45s downstairs this time but my girlfriend killed them off pretty good in a day a couple months back & Trevor said not much new stuff had come in since we were there last anyways. Also pillaged Groovy & Galaxy while we were there.
