I am not down with Fairport. I'm not really into traditional folk harmonies unfortunately.

This being said, I'm really enjoying the first Steeleye Span album and I regret putting it on ebay. It's the second pressing, so hopefully it won't sell. Grippers remorse.

Gentle is whatever you want it to be. In fact, I'm almost curious to see what other people think is gentle. If new jacks are posting Donald Byrd street lady as gentle then I know a lot more about them than they think.

Bambouche, I agree about Sybil. I got the CD issue and it sounds nice, I'm not so sure about the vinyl. Who found her or produced those tapes? Father? Boyfriend? Son? Brother? I will look for that Eric Dolphy.

    Hey,

I'm definitely down with the gentle stuff, although I'm not a newbie. Here goes (not all of which are jazz):

-"Sleeping Gypsy" and "The Art of Tea"-Michael Franks.
    -"Realization"-Johnny Rivers.
    -"S/T"-Archie Shepp.
-"Travelin' Light" and "I Remember Miles"-Shirley Horne.
    -"Warm Breezes"-Cal Tjader.
    -"Soft Samba Strings"-Gary McFarland.
    -"Perfect Angel"-Minnie Riperton.
    -"Mudboy Slim"-James Taylor.
-"Hissing of Summer Lawns", "Blue", and "Court and Spark"-Joni Mitchell.
    -"No Secrets"-Carly Simon.
-"Vision of a New World"-Lonnie Liston Smith & the Cosmic Echoes (sort of).
    -"S/T"-John Coltrane and Johnny Hartmann.
    -"S/T"-Ahmad Jamal.
    -"Shadow of Your Smile"-Astrud Gilberto.

    Peace,

Gordon Lightfoot is the fucking dude.

    Whattup Big Stacks.

  • I'[ve been listening to Fairport lately, but have been more into the solo Sandy Denny stuff, good call A****.

As far as Fairport Convention is concerned, I like the songs that feature her vocals more. I'll check out her solo material.

I was going to mention that s/t Ahmad Jamal, as well, Stacks. That's one of my favorite piano trio albums.

Here are clips of the first Bruce Cockburn record. The first song in the clips is a little aggressive, but the rest is pure gentle.

I found this to be a soft, smooth, and gentle record.

If I still smoked the cheeb, I would kick it at night playing solitare, puffing a j, and playing this record front to back.

He did a ton of records with mustached snoopy dude on Fantasy, but this one is on Takoma and is solo guitar - but jazzy. It is mellow and introspective in a similar way as that Abdul Wadud... or at least that's how I remember it being. From what I've read, Fahey totally worshiped the guy.

OK, I need this. The Takoma, solo guitar, Fahey connection is enough already.

It should be really cheap online, I'd think.

I had no idea this record was on takoma. knowing john fahey was heavy into bola sete makes so much sense.
