DIGGIN in POLAND

well it looks as if i will be in poland for 5 days with 4 free days. can someone post a link to a previous poland rundown or give me complete detailed instructions on digging for funkjazzscatraers in poland. peace, stein. . .

    If you're going to be in Krakow (which I definitely recommend - a beautiful city) there's some vinyl available in a CD store in the main square (Runek Glowny?). Found a mint Jerzy Milian for 1 euro at the train station where they sell mostly used books and comics. The only "specialist" shop is High Fidelity, but their prices on the good stuff were steep: 80 euros for Komeda, 40 for Bemibem and so on.

    Once while I was walking down the street with a bunch of records, some rocker dude passed by, turned around and stopped me. Turns out that I had been shopping at his store, which was near the river. He invited me to his apartment where I copped a few of the better Polish jazz records and a cool looking Polish release of the first Cymande LP, etc. while he was watching a bootleg Dio DVD! Can't for the life of me remember the name of his shop, but the owner was called Tomek, if that helps.

    R***** there is a place in warsaw that is just polish jazz. Unfortunately my cousin found it the day AFTER I left. if you don't find it let me know and I will bug him for the info.

    I`ve been to a few nice shops in warsaw; unfortunately the stores know bloody well about the worth of certain records. it s really not easy to find f.e. one of the rarer polish jazz records for cheap $. novi singers records were really expensive (bossa nova around 100$)
    I cant really remember the names or the locations, but i could send u a friends contact so u could ask him..

    High Fidelity used to be cheap a little over 3 years ago, before Poland went to the Euro...I scored some really nice records (Novi Singers, Wojech Karolak, Neimen, and a bunch of other Polish Jazz jernts) for 6 zloty($1.50 US) or less each...the euro really fucked that place up price wise. Got a 5 course meal for 2 in a 3 star restaurant with 2 bottles of wine for $30-something US...everything was cheap...bus ticket to Zakopane was like $4 US...but regardless, Krakow is indeed a beautiful city regardless of price.

    I thought generally High Fidelity's prices were still good when i went in January... Petr, who runs the place, is great for picking out stuff you might like that you might have overlooked.
    Agree on it being a really nice city though...

    Trekking in Zakopane comes highly recommended from me. Some stunningly beautiful landscapes to be seen there.

    The only skinhead I saw while I was in Poland was in Oswiecim, also known as Auschwitz.
