everything has a chemical half-life, although rubbing alcohol would be a ridiculously long time. I assume its just some stupid commerce law about retailers rotating stock and having to pull things from the shelves after a cetain amount of time.

Because the government makes them do it.

Additional product storage requirements for maintaining a product's aesthetic qualities or preventing premature deterioration are obtainable from the manufacturer. According to USP 23-NF 18 general information chapter Good Manufacturing Practices, as specified in 21 CFR 211.166, the manufacturer "shall assess the stability characteristics of drug products. Results shall be used in determining appropriate storage conditions and expiration dates . . . and shall include testing of the drug product in the same container-closure system as that in which the drug product is marketed." A product's declared expiration date was determined by the manufacturer using stability studies that incorporate a product's container-closure system, including the enclosed protectant.

Lost in all this humor is the fact that you
are using rubbing[/b] alcohol to clean records -
I sincerely hope that was part of the joke ...

Well, as this is Phill[/b] Most, I have no idea if
you are just messing with me - and I assume you are - but
still, rubbing alcohol has additives in it that are not in
regular isopropyl alcohol and that can damage records, namely
a solvent (acetane? I can't remember) that is very damaging
    to plastics.

naw, in all seriousness... this stuff with the expired date IS rubbing alcohol, but it's isopropyl rubbing alcohol... 70% alcohol, 30% water. No acetane, no ethyl, etc. So I think my raers are okay. My only fear is that BE DAMNED EXPIRATION DATE which may lead to the demise of my immensely valuable collection of rock breaks
