    carolinasoul.org is Jason Perlmutter's site and it's off the proverbial hook. Who else is turning up the quantity and quality of unknown records that this dude is?

    greatlakessoul.com is in the works (SoulHawk related). Has the potential to be truly excellent.

    This is Sc*tt H*rlow's site (he posts here occasionally). It's been around for years, but is really just now getting hits. I've got a small stack of stuff lined up to contribute, but probably won't get around to 'til after classes. Good site. WITH AUDIO!

    It is really FUCKING RIDICULOUS how much stuff this dude discovers... I'm out here looking for records a few times a week and I find (almost) NONE of this stuff. Not that he doesn't put his work in, but damn...

    Both of the above groups are white dudes.
    Excluding the Success label, you can count on the fingers the real soul releases from Iowa 1967-1977.

    There are quite a few soul records from Kansas City and St. Louis.
    Columbia, Jefferson City and Warrensburg? Not so many.

    outside of the dakotas... i think every state has at least two or three soul records. maybe montana too.

    There are a few soul records from the Dakotas, mixed groups naturally.
    I have never seen a Vermont or New Hampshire soul 45.
    Utah also has a paucity of soul releases.

    Rob was tracking something from Alaska, so there's at least one from there, though it was a military base record if I remember correctly.

    Any thoughts on an APO site?

    Idaho anyone?

    i have a disco/soul record from alaska... but dante pointed out to me that it was a group from StL. cool label design though.

    at least the release is Alaska.

    oh and the dude that ran Freeway studios out in Oakland,Ca lives in alaska... supposedly.

    The only soul 45 I've seen from Alaska is the Sunday Nite Affair, on the Anchorage-based Alaska label.
    The band was from South Carolina though.
    Lots of bands went to Alaska to staff the many nightclubs and restaurants that did good business during the fishing season, only to return home during the off-season.
    Fisherman need entertainment too!

    Somebody needs to step up to the plate and make an AmericanSoulRecordings site. It wouldn't have to be much else besides a line-map of the US with the states that have their own pages highlighted and hyperlinked.

    How are these? I remember you mentioning them before. Only Iowa record that I've got that I actually like is that Dartanyan one that was recorded in Des Moines---soul jazzy dancey I guess.

It might be appropriate to include a brief overview of "What makes Soul music Soul", maybe even a "where did it come from and what did it evolve into" bit.....and everyone who has a page can contribute some thoughts. That would be smashing.
