The music director for a local radio station sold his personal collection to a shop recently. I picked these up for cheap:

The Preston Love is on United. Is that a budget reissue label? I've only seen this cover without the added flames.

Kent is the first label. I've seen 3 covers. Kent gatefold, Kent Gatefold that says "Suggie Otis On Guitar", and the one you got. Suggie was 14 when this was recorded and he is

  • Don't see the big deal about this one. Just not my thing maybe.

Also found Dre Dog - Situation Critical, RBL Posse - Bounce Ta This Doubles, Kool G. Rap - Fast Life Norfside Mix, and Beatnuts - Street Level Instrumentals Volume 2.

Anybody know when this Beatnuts Instro LP was released or who pressed it.

For $20 total in great condition:

Herbie Hancock Sextant (Columbia, 73): My ideal sound.
The Electric Prunes Mass In F Minor: Midi UK budget label with hideous "Original ROCK Classics" logo outlining the original cover
Covina High School Colt Band and Orchestra Adventures In Time (private, Feb. 4, '67): Typical jazz and ragtime in an auditorium
Lebanon High School Jazz Festival 1966 (Century): Another high school jazz show deal with cool stock cover art. From Springfield, MO with a short version of "The Munsters" theme
The Friends Od Distinction Grazin' (RCA, 69)
The Shirelles S/T (RCA, 72...sealed): Excellent stuff. Originals and nice covers of "Ain't No Sunshine", "Let's Stay Together" and a Marvin Gaye medley with "Mercy Mercy Me", "Inner City Blues" and "What's Going On" blending into each other perfectly at different parts.

A good weekend, got some good stuff from the local record fair, some of it is shown below, but most of it I have to collect sometime this week. Anyways, apart from the fair, this stuff came from the Milwaukee 45s shipment I'm still wading through & the very tip of the iceberg of a radio station lot of NZ pressed 45s (many still with the promo sheets), definitely more to come from there in a few months time, my girlfriend copped more great stuff than I did too.

Ahmad Jamal is the original NZ press on Chess & the James Moody in Hi Fi is the original UK press on Esquire & is minty ($2 from the record fair, yes please).

Not sure it was that interesting... maybe 30 good records and the rest is corny. Do the math.
