I'd go, except I'm in New Brunswick. The one in April was great. I hear KL might be there....

I think your body is just reacting to nerd sweat and record dust. I wonder if Roid Rage dude will show again...

that was fun! yesterday was beautiful sunny day, I got some nice nice records, met blaz's supercute daughter and ate delicious Ethiopian food after. the food was so good, I'm still thinking about it how good it was. I even liked the injera, which I usually am not a fan of. am thinking of going back there tonight. was actually thinking of going back there last night.

Man. Was it just me or was there quite a bit of cheap stuff?

    A,

I didn't see you when I left to say bye.

Good to see some strutters out 'n' aboot.

  • bassiebassie 11,710 Posts
yea - I was wondering where you went. the prices were OK - saw some totally mashed up vinyl for $$$ - that didn't make too much sense. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable last time. the selection was not as extensive - it seemed folks brought fewer crates than the Fall show.

the show was nice ! I didn't meet any new strutters though.... Bassie I don't even know what you look like , but I was the one wearing a shirt that said Disco in big letters on it. I was pretty surprised to see DJ Spinna show up and come right to our table (me and my friend Kae) and buy some pieces. I didn't even realize it was him at first because he said his name so quietly , he wasn't trying to draw too much attention . real nice guy .

Big up to Kevin (sipreano) and Dane for being such gents (Dane i will get you back in some way for giving me that record). Saw DOR , Aaron (tuneup) and other heads in attendance .. Supertoaster , you were there?? No hello for me?

i got some pretty ill stuff for pretty cheap too (thank you senor vishal/general eclectic/warwick/others)

Duh. ok in that case I didn't know you as 'Bassie' .. haha that is funny though. I feel kind of dumb but not too dumb. Thank you again for the bags , without them I would have been in a lot of trouble and would be dropping records on the sidewalk and cracking them

  • bassiebassie 11,710 Posts
Yea, I don???t think there would be any way for you to know ??? I prefer a low profile.

    Glad to help!

There is a torontorecordshow phenomenon, where I buy a record that I think is something else then I get home and find out it is quebecois progressive rock. I guess thats not necessarily a bad thing, but no, yeah it is.

still found some nice stuff. still had some nice coffee. I didn't introduce myself to anyone new, but for reference I wore purple. also I have a fairly distinct look of constant bewilderment on my face.

So maybe now I can put some (half-remembered) faces to (nick) names... catalist, I think I handed you that copy of Matata, standing in front of Symon's table... and bassie, I think I saw you listen to that Cold Blood... was that you sitting with R---beh for a while?

I had a good time, but went through everything surprisingly quickly. Here's what I got, and who I got it from:

Highlight was Ananda Shankar, which I bought from the guy beside Symon (who I remember had good records at the last record show).

Bought a copy of L'Initiation OST from a guy named George over by the bar.

Bought Henri Texier and Marcos Valle's Brazilliance from a bearded guy.

Bought a copy of Lani Hall's Sun down lady and a Nico Gomez bootleg from the guy closest to the door.

Were any of those people strutters?

  • catalistcatalist 1,373 Posts
    hey man

I had no idea you were a soulstrut head ... I went to Sean's table earlier in the day and listened to that Matata record , the shit was staying in my head so I had to come back for it. sorry if it seemed like I was rushing the crate, I just knew that was the one record i wanted to spend a bit on so I wanted to grab it before someone else did.

None of those people were strutters , unless it could have been Tuneup who had a bunch of boxes on a table near the door..to your left if you come through the door. lots of 70s soul and jazz stuff .. i didn't even get a chance to go through his records , I was all over the place for that show.

glad to see you got some good ones though , theres a show at that hotel / banquet center on Dixie Road in about a month i hear..

the website should be www.vibrations.ca (if porn comes up it is not my fault)

No worries, I don't think I would've bought the Matata anyways... Usually I plan for one big sale and the Ananda Shankar was it! Just wanted to check it out since I think they have 2 albums and I'm not sure what tracks are on which albums. I really like 'talking talking' though.

That convention centre show seems like it could be good, or really bad KISS memorabilia... Getting to Mississagua via TTC seems like a trek though.

No, we were both hatless and digging at the far end, carrying the Vestax portables. We were there just after it opened. I'm pretty sure I saw you walking around, being the only lady among the sweaty record nerds.

lol - nah - there were at least five girls there who were actually looking for records!
