So, if your raers are scratchy, are they still $$?

I don't dabble much in record dealing. I do have a couple pretty raer jazz pieces that are worth anywhere from $100-500 in NM condition. I'm curious to know how far the record grading goes as far as scratchy sounding wax. For instance, Eric Dolphy Live at the Five Spot original in NM can fetch some dollars (popsike aside, i've seen it for big bucks in shops and on ebay), but how about an original pressing that has some surface scratches and some crackle in some of the songs? No skips, just some noise. Is this considered VG-? Or worse? Do $500 pieces still fetch a buck or two when they are in VG- condition? Thanks for any insight/advice. I don't want to end up listing some shit on eBay one day and then catching heat for not grading properly. I imagine there's some record grading guide somewhere I should be querying...

    I think 20-25% per grade(NM, VG+, VG) until you hit VG-(no "collector" or someone who spends loot on records will care about it then) then hope ya can get $5-10 as a gap filler. This is just Jazz however. You can get $$$ with shittier records when dealing with raer Elvis, Rockabilly, Garage and shit like that.

    You can still get decent money for VG- records if they're super rare and in demand. I got $4,600 for something that was VG- (modern soul 45 grail-related). But regular jazz titles will be a real tough sell if they're less than VG+.

    I know popsike isn't the most accurate place to check prices cuz eBay is nuts, but I saw a couple of these sell for >$100 graded at vg-. I guess I'm looking for more clarification on what VG- is.

    If the record plays thru with no skips and doesn't sound like frying eggs, though it has some clicks and pops, you can call it VG-. Otherwise its G or worse.
