Although i am now leaning toward 'perfecto'Apparently from an ebony magazine ad 'in the 70's'.Being a 70's kid myself... i always wanted an afro. but im white. Back when i was 7, My ginger friend Howard rocked the best jewfro ive ever seen... i was so fucking jealous.

    Perfecto is definitely where it's at. I had a part like that when I was a kid, but Mom's wouldn't let me grow out a 'fro, I think she thought they looked too militant for a 7 year old.

    BTW, 'the 'fro' pic looks exactly like my dad. Now.

    Yes. My dad is known to still rock a serious afro from time to time.

    I'm a bit of of a 'new natural' man, myself thanks to my African/Indo Carribean roots.

    Wasn't the 'and his woman' cover image used for a different ad in Ebony?

    By far the rarest Stax title in my collection.



    It's cool to see Rulon Duke getting around. He's to hair care products what Purdie was to studio drumming.

    To answer Castillizo's question from that other place, I was the one to "break" Rulon Duke. It was, if I remember correctly, some years ago on this board ("back when this place was cool," as they say), during one many sample ID requests, pertaining to the weird Sitar-like sound on Blowout Comb. I posted Rulon as a reference to the cover art sampling. Just for fun.

    I believe it was Crink who turned Rulon Duke into Rulon Jones on Stax. A memorable jumping off point for all this jpg fuckery. Here's the Duke I knew, from a back issue of Jet Magazine I got at Urban Ore in Berkeley, along with a buttload of Ant Banks promo 12"s:
