  • Weren't they going to discontinue a year or so ago? Whatever happened with that? I recall a few studios stocking up.

    Maybe that was Ampeg? Not entirely sure. This looks pretty final, though.

    They had stopped for a while like 3 years ago, but came back from the dead. Another sad ending for the analog recording industry...

    tape will always be around.




    i think there is a small comp that took over ampex/quantagy's inventory. you can still buy tape on ebay for the same price.

    i recorded my first record on 499.

    It looks like I'll have to stock up.

  • I think they are only stopping gp9 because it is a complicated formulation, some are good, others are not.
    I also expect that ATR service should have thier 'blow everyone out the water' formulation done sometime soon. I wouldn' trip too hard. 3m still has the machines to make tape, as do a few other high end manufacturers. If quantegy stops making tape someone will step in.
