And I saw you buying a Cecil Taylor record the other day. You lost your mind?
ha ha. don't get me twisted with some of these other hatuurs around here. i have nothing but absolute love for free/out/weirdo shit.
however it is a genre i have relatively limited knowledge about.
Margaret Cho: Notorious C.H.O.
Margaret Cho: Revolution
Maria, Full of Grace
Clockers
Office Space
He Got Game
surely this was fauzy's choice
No doubt. The boy wanted to relive his yout' in Atlanta. I think he took some chickenhead named Qiqua or something to that movie.
I watched this once with my gf and my mom. AWKWARD! Boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, is Cho one filthy b*tch!
The special commentary on the DVD was her voice doing an impression of her mother over the entire performance. I thought it was funnier than the actual stand-up.
word she is not funny at all
I love that movie -- Sun Ra spoke to me in a dream after I watched it. And I'm listening to Cecil taylor right now, its really Cecil Payne tho.
How were these two?
tee hee
George Washington is absolutely incredible. i can't recommend it enough. dude was able to get a lot of a cast consisting primarily of child actors and it looks beautiful. one of the best movies of the past few years. in fact i might just rent it again.
i don't really remember much about downtown 81 to be honest. just a lot of basquiat walking around the city mixed with art for the sake of art type shit and then a corny/random debbie harry cameo. you can tell it was incomplete and never meant to be released. saul williams narrates and i remember thinking "damn basquiat sounded a lot like saul williams" until i saw the credits.

i particularly like the love stories about couples from differing backgrounds a la romeo and juliet. rich/poor, black/white, country/city. with emphasis on the country/city theme cuz as a fine upstanding country boy, ive always fancied the mythical sophistication of the cosmopolitan female.
besides, there's either korean soap operas or mini blockbuster/lucy's combos in my 'hood. and ive completely run through all the comedies...

Whats this movie all about? It's a Korean flik, right? Every time I mean to rent it it's out or some shit.
Let's be clear: I did not watch any of these shits.
...as for the OLDBOY comment, ya...it's Korean from 2003. Good film. I personally liked Sympathy more, but OLDBOY is more than worth the watch. A very high level 1 minute summary is a guy is imprisoned in a room for 15 years and one day he is let out. He then tries to find out who did it, and why...

Interesting list!
Is this - 04/15/05 04/18/05 Islands in the Stream (2004)[/b] - the Hemingway movie w/George C. Scott? If so, GREAT flick.
It's a surfing film.
Directed by Wes Brown, grandson of Bruce Brown, the man who did The Endless Summer[/b]. Wes is the son of Dana Brown, who did the recent Step Into Liquid[/b].
I generally don't like a lot of mainstream films, and as you can see, my list generally consists of:
1) Music (movies, documentaries, or video compilations)
2) Surf films
3) Foreign films
Baise Moi[/b] was terrible. The title translates to "Rape Me" and it got a lot of attention due to its sex scenes. I'm not a French movie buff (I generally like Asian films, and have been wanting to explore movies from the Middle East and Africa), but if this is an example of "French cinema", they can have it.
Cool! I saw 'Step Into Liquid' on Sundance and SS's own Birdman9 hepped me to some other cool surf films.
It's a good example of one type of French cinema.
What didn't you like about it?
Continuity was terrible, and because of that things weren't consistent. Storyline jumped from one thing to the other. I love a good abstract film, but it felt like someone rented out some camcorders and threw the footage to someone who didn't know how to edit properly. I think if the film was better planned out, and better edited during post-production, it would've been alright.
I did like 400 Blows[/b], which I think was an excellent movie as is.
I tend to like movies along the lines of In The Mood For Love[/b], Hero[/b], Shanghai Triad[/b], 2047[/b], Ju Dou[/b], Lagaan[/b], Vertical Rays Of The Sun[/b], and Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes[/b]. I'm waiting for The Gumball Rally[/b] to be released on DVD.
what is this one ? I looked it up on Imdb and it doesn't seem to exist.
rental history coming...
Another surf movie:
This one feels more like a highlight reel, and while the footage is good, the pace was kinda messed up.
That it is! Little man went on to be in a bunch of Godard films.
How close are you to Toronto?
wicked films all summer long
