Everything except the Bamboos was from last weekend's trip to Christchurch, definitely makes a change to dig in another city. (Just wish I could've spent more time in the shops instead of having to go to my cousin's wedding. Although it was kinda fun when the bridesmaid fainted & stopped the minister droning on & on & on....)
Finally got my favorite Common LP on vinyl, goodbye cassette, the Foundations was an upgrade.
Bird 'n' Diz on Clef 10"?
Not just an amazing, seminal bop session, but also rather
you just won a FAKE FIND VOUCHER, use it wisely.
I remember being really dissappointed with this. WHat do you think of it? I can't remember what put me off...
- J
Yea, it's pretty weak. The LP has the look, but not the sound. If this place had had a listening station I wouldn't have even spent the $1. They can play but it's not my kind of jazz. People trying to imitate Bird rarely works.
sax solos and transcribe them for a saxophone "chorus."
Sax nerds like my Father love that shit, he has pushed
that "Chasin' the Bird" album on me a few times over the
years, but it just doesn't take.
Nkengas -- live in london
Bembeya Jazz National -- Special recueil souvenir - Memoire de Aboubacar CAMARA
I'm trying to decide whether my life has been enriched or tarnished by the introduction of this concept.

haven't listened to anything yet. am eager to hear the nina, haven't had much hands on with her mid 70's work.
That's a scary looking record....
There are 100's of LP's with this title...I'm sure they make every ex-Altar boy cringe when they see them.
The Priest that Mark Foley said had molested him claimed that "It was only light touching", whatever the hell that is!!
Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter is
BETTY EVERETT - THERE'LL COME A TIME
Love the orchestration and production by Willie Mitchell I think. She sounds great on 'Take Me' and @Is There A Chance'...
ANN PEEBLES - HANDWRITING IS ON THE WALL
Thank you Soul Sides for pointing me in that direction
And then in dodgy thrift store on weekend trip to see the mother-in-law...
QUINCY CONSERVE - EPITAPH
Not one but two clean nice copies of seminal local (NZ) rock/funk/jazz-ka-teers. Alright In The City is dope.

Killer funky r'nb.

Great cheapie deep soul.
Leontine Dupree: I'm Guilty 45 (Nation)

Alright, I have to ask DANNO3000. Is this the one you played a couple of months ago on waxing deep?
thrift/flea finds 25 cents - a dollar (with exception of a few that were priced at 1.99)
some euro disco cuts--found a ton of them--these were the highlights -- my fave being the black devil disco club lp. perfect shape! all of them look barely listened to!!!
found like 30 or so 78s of the spiritual/gospel/r&b/soul/jazz variety at 25 cents each!
the 78s include : the moonglows, the trumpeteers, rubber johnson, linda hopkins, little esther, gene & eunice, sister katty marie, marie adams, little richard, little mr. midnight, annisteen allan, van walls, nellie lutcher, bill doggett, bobby smith, rusty bryant, golden gate jubilee quartet, sister rosetta tharpe, mahalia, charles brown , marie knight, the ravens, wynonie harris, and a bunch more..
at same thrift i pulled out some hip-hop and electro 12"s mostly:
and two small label philly releases (tony trip dub, know anything???)
that west oak lane jam is my jam!!! it is an instro electro/hip-hoppish funk with loads of breaks. other side is kind of too moder soul to me. but maaannn...west oak lane.
my highlight, bossa/jazz, label out of portugal. anyone know it?
