Everything except the Bamboos was from last weekend's trip to Christchurch, definitely makes a change to dig in another city. (Just wish I could've spent more time in the shops instead of having to go to my cousin's wedding. Although it was kinda fun when the bridesmaid fainted & stopped the minister droning on & on & on....)
Finally got my favorite Common LP on vinyl, goodbye cassette, the Foundations was an upgrade.

Yeah, Australian press too. Should clean up real nice by the looks of the vinyl. The store had a bunch of nice 10s there, Bud Powell on debut was one I nearly took home also but I limited myself to not spending more than $10 on any one item, so for $15 it stayed put. I may have to fly back there soon though to excavate the rest of that store.

Yea, it's pretty weak. The LP has the look, but not the sound. If this place had had a listening station I wouldn't have even spent the $1. They can play but it's not my kind of jazz. People trying to imitate Bird rarely works.

Supersax are a "gimmick" act, in that they take classic
sax solos and transcribe them for a saxophone "chorus."

Sax nerds like my Father love that shit, he has pushed
that "Chasin' the Bird" album on me a few times over the
years, but it just doesn't take.

    Sax nerds

I'm trying to decide whether my life has been enriched or tarnished by the introduction of this concept.

  • bought part of a dude's collection today for 80 bucks. got about 90-100 lp's, most of it modern soul, with some good, albeit moldy-ass, business contained therein.

    Undisputed Truth - S/T
Ralph Mcdonald - Sound of a Drum
Nina Simone - It Is Finished
    Quincy Jones - Smackwater Jack
    Herbie Hancock - Secrets
Alphonse Mouzon - The Man Incognito
Roy Ayers - Daddy Bug And Friends
    Herbie Hancock - Manchild
Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Lifeline & Everbody Loves The Sunshine
Mandrill - Beast From The East
Funkadelic - Uncle Sam Wants You
Kool and The Gang - Light of Worlds
    Parliament - Motor Booty Affair
Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces

haven't listened to anything yet. am eager to hear the nina, haven't had much hands on with her mid 70's work.

    That's a scary looking record....

There are 100's of LP's with this title...I'm sure they make every ex-Altar boy cringe when they see them.

The Priest that Mark Foley said had molested him claimed that "It was only light touching", whatever the hell that is!!

  • Just now recovering from a crazy 3-night freakbeat weekender w/ Eric ModChicago & Tony The Tyger right here in NC. Such a great time. Good to see DigDug & Phono13 out last night!

Anyway I hit the flea market today and got a few records.

Soul Twisters: Soul Fever / Swinging 45 (Romat)
A $50-$75 NC soul value. Nigh unplayed.

Billy Hambric: Talk to Me Baby 45 (Fury)
    Killer funky r'nb.

Big John Hamilton: I Have No One 45 (Minaret)
    Great cheapie deep soul.

Leontine Dupree: I'm Guilty 45 (Nation)
Good tune that covers all three funk/northern/modern bases

Crosby Stills Nash & Young: OHIO LP (Snoopy Records live bootleg)
Ken Boothe: EVERYTHING I OWN LP (Trojan UK)
Justin Hines & The Dominoes: JEZEBEL LP (Nigerian press)
    Eddy Grant: MESSAGE MAN LP

    And for the factor:

Ofege: TRY AND LOVE LP (EMI Nigeria)
Fela: SHUFFERING & SHMILING LP (Nigerian press on Coconut)

    TOTAL: $35

Alright, I have to ask DANNO3000. Is this the one you played a couple of months ago on waxing deep?

I said I would post-- and I am:

thrift/flea finds 25 cents - a dollar (with exception of a few that were priced at 1.99)

some euro disco cuts--found a ton of them--these were the highlights -- my fave being the black devil disco club lp. perfect shape! all of them look barely listened to!!!

found like 30 or so 78s of the spiritual/gospel/r&b/soul/jazz variety at 25 cents each!

the 78s include : the moonglows, the trumpeteers, rubber johnson, linda hopkins, little esther, gene & eunice, sister katty marie, marie adams, little richard, little mr. midnight, annisteen allan, van walls, nellie lutcher, bill doggett, bobby smith, rusty bryant, golden gate jubilee quartet, sister rosetta tharpe, mahalia, charles brown , marie knight, the ravens, wynonie harris, and a bunch more..

at same thrift i pulled out some hip-hop and electro 12"s mostly:

and two small label philly releases (tony trip dub, know anything???)

that west oak lane jam is my jam!!! it is an instro electro/hip-hoppish funk with loads of breaks. other side is kind of too moder soul to me. but maaannn...west oak lane.

  • my highlight, bossa/jazz, label out of portugal. anyone know it?

  • SwayzeSwayze 14,705 Posts
you say that's bossa/jazz? looks like it could be good mr. crashcourse.
