Sorry no doubt this has been covered before but I need some schooling.I'm a complete novice when it comes to audio in the digital realm but I really wantto add sound clips to my auctions. Can someone tell me, step by step how this isdone? Keep in mind I've never even made an sound file from a record before and I don't have the cable to run from my mixer to my Mac (I've got an Ibook runnin' OS X).I need the SOFA KING WE TODD DID version...

From the point you're talking about you're in for a bit of work.

You need to A. get the clip recorded onto your computer. Numerous ways this can be done - the easiest probably would be to bring a 6 pack and the records over to a friend's place who knows how and is set up to do it already.

    B. once the files are all edited, at a good bitrate so they are not huge, etc you need to host them on a website. You cannot upload sound straight to eBay like you can pictures. So, you either need to buy hosting or bum some from someone who has it already.

    C. once the file is on the web somewhere you need to link to it with the proper html tags and whatnot.

Basically, adding sound to auctions is about 3 times as much work as not. But, once you get the hang of it, it's not all that bad.

    Thanks Crinky that helps.
I've done enough research now to know the process, it's just working out the little details.
I'm picking up an IMIC tomorrow, I've got a host set-up, and a tutorial to do the html so
hopefully my next auctions will have sound.

Picked up the Imic today. I've got soundfiles on the computer, but they turned out
    to be 12 Megs each...
    Probably a little too big.
I'm working the process out as we speak.
    It's just mind over Megabyte!

    Are you using a Mac??

Man I hope you kept the receipt.

Take that shit back and go get one of these:

You can get one from radio shack for less than 5 bucks.

Then go download Audacity, Im sure there are other programs that are similar that will work too. Plug the 1/8 end into your computer and Plug the RCA's directly into your mixer or reciever. Thats it basically. Watch the levels in audacity so you dont distort, and you'll have to import it into Itunes to convert to mp3 which will shrink the size automatically. Then upload and post. Done deal.

I cant remember the exact jack on the confuser but its not the headphone jack, the other one....mic output or video something or other?? If its not one its the other. You'll need the little rca to rca adapters if your going directly from a rca connected turntable and not running it through a mixer or reciever. I assume you have one or both so either way you should have somewhere to plug in the rcas. You can go directly to a portable turntable with rca jacks if its easier but you can daisy chain from virtually any input where ever it is.

I know it sounds confusing because its 4:29 am and I just got home from work and have pounded beers for 40 mins, but I made the mistake of buying that thing a few years ago and found out I never even needed it so save your money and go buy some records instead.

Yeah I have an Ibook which doesn't have an optical line in , only a
headphone jack so I don't think that method will work.
    Thanks though.

opens in a new browser window.

I think it does that for me since the clip is in my Itunes?
Who knows, I just want it to work.
So it works for crink, how bout the rest of ya'lls
hit this link and play the mp3 on the auction page:

You didnt cut and paste the link properly the second time.

But the mp3 is fine. The way it opens depends on how the end user's browser is set (or on how he clicks on it). That's beyond your control. Looks good to me.

Use the first link to try out the sound file, the second one is wonky.

Worked for me. For some reason my computer plays some MP3's with Quicktime.

WTF is up with the "Thank you for trying" in the middle? You using some jenky demo software?

Guitly as charged, it is a "jenky demo version"...
I'm a cheap ass bastard. I figured it's no big deal since you are potentially buying the
    record not the soundclip.
Some people add their own tags so people won't steal their audio right?
Pretty much the same thing the way I see it.

What crashed your browser? Using FileDen as a host? I'm just giving that service a try now, too. Don't want my auctions turning off the customers. Plaese to advise.

Most folks are having a good experience.
File Den is easy to use, seems fine for now.
