Ok Windows users, after clicking 'remind me in a week' for about a month and half, finally checked what it was going to cost to renew Norton internet security. Shit is like 70 bucks!!!! it only 20 bucks more for the new program in the store. Im assuming no one knows a workaround for the virus definitions, so what are people using for virus protection? Something low profile with internet/spyware protection and more reasonable reup? And please mac users, no gloating....

Norton is wack. It will slow down your PC at all times. Download and install the "AVG free edition." AVG is the truth. No significant slowdown and it is free.

  • i re-upped my norton for $50, check the options it gives you. Unless they raised their prices in the last 2 months. Also, I knew a young program-acquiring kid who was going to give me a reg crack for norton and that would basically allow you to re-register the software and download new definitions, but I never heard back from him. It doesn't sound like a very smart idea to me anyway. It's probably best to buy it.

I did use AVG anti-virus for quite some time some years back, but I think norton is the way to go nowadays due to how much crazy shit is out there. But AVG is a decent free web based anti-virus program that might be better than nothing. Look it up on google or download.com or something, good luck.

    avast!
    its free.

  • well, norton has always worked the best for me, caught the most viruses, automatic updates work the best. AVG slips now and again, I don't think their definitions are as extensive as norton's, could be why. oh well. different strokes. AVG does work though.

    avg or nod32 are good
whats really more important is running windows update regularly and paying attention to what you download

  • the best of the best, Kaspersky

  • I forgot to add that it is also a good idea to run ad-aware regularly, virus software may not pick up on some adware and spyware. ad-aware finds the cuttiest of cutty shit in my machine.

Norton Internet Security sucks. I like Norton AntiVirus stand-alone though. I have been managing corporate antivirus servers (managing anywhere from 100-500 PC's remotely) for many years now for various companies. As long as I've been running Norton NOT ONE of the computers I maintain have been infected. Because of that I have been hesitant to switch.
