funky mid 70's uptempo records. I wash my hands of the whole thing is a cdefinite B-boy track, with a Black sheep sample

    Kinda boring IMO

solid early 70's funk LP much different from their mid to late 70's stuff

Please be serious--the bottom record is much better than that terd on top, samplez and b-boy breakz be damned.

    "Wildflower"

"It's Been Such a Long Time"

    "I Can Understand It"

    Oops

  • Fuck that shit.

Why were the New Birth never as cool as the Nite Liters?

And you know how I feel about the Nite Liters.

I think this may have been the long-promised "test on the funk" that 'Shied said he was going to administer to us.

I'm not sure whether you aced it or flunked.

"Black with N.V" is my favorite Black Sheep song. Does the New Birth song have that bassline?

  • The world, so far, has not caught on to Reynaldo's pronouncement that "Funk is over".

The only Funk I have left is the Meters S/T, Kool and The Gang S/T, and Funky Nassau.

Y'all already know that any test of funk that I would administer would most likely not involve any record knowledge.

    It would be more like...

Have you ever joined a second line?

What would your hair look like if you didn't mess with it for a week?

What is the largest number of different intoxicants that you've had in your system at one time?

Have you ever slapped the taste out of someone's mouth?

How do you put a crawfish to sleep?

    Etc...

  • Etc...

If you could PM the rest I'd be interested in keeping score.

    So far my answers were:

    No

    Yes

    Blue

    Pepperoni Pizza

    Austin Chronicle.

A little extreme--no James Brown and related?

Oh shit I haven't heard that in a long time. One of my favorite cuts by them.

You must be funky if you have been able to make so many big dude moves in your life without the benefit of any reading comprehension skiils. Big ups to you, sir.

As an aside, have you ever been underprivileged? If not, being of the inner city will do...

You ain't knowing? Underprivileged is what all my funky little white cousins are into nowadays. Drop out of school, pick up a drug habit, get a teenage girl pregnant...you know, all that dope shit.

  • Interesting fact: Joe Quarterman's lead guitarist, Jackie Lee, was only one step away from joining The B-Kays when they first formed. It was only a last minute decision that kept him outta the group.

  • Dope record. I hardly listen to New Birth. Nite-Liters & Black Heat are better.

Anyone feeling that Newbirth song "Deeper?" That shit is , ill use of echo.

Hell yeh! That "Mighty Army" LP is underrated, IMO. Actually, I think there is at least one good or worthwhile song on each of their later, less remembered albums.

I read somewhere that the band backing Leslie Wilson on the "Mighty Army" LP was not New Birth, but rather members of Kleer/Universal Robot Band.
