It was released with titles "blacksmoke" and also an issue with "Smoke". But I think the cover looks the same.

Interesting... I think the 45 of Your Love Got Me Burning was released as "Smoke"?

Can we have some big dudes step in to define a Disco Funk Banger? Is it BT Express or is it Rene & Angela?

Both if the question was Disco/Funk Bangers.

    Define Banger!

    Relax.

BANGER is guaranteed crowd response. Some disco/funk which are not bangers can be laced along w/ the heavy hitters. Obscure album cuts to compliment the hits. U know this already. There are no rules. But there are songs that everybody just agrees are hits.

Well, I'd say there are 2 types of records that get (positive) responses from crowds. 1) Banger! 2) Tuuuuuuuune! Rene & Angela would be a Tuuuuuuune!

Nowt wrong with Classix, Faux. I'm just pointing out mis-categorizations. I thought you'd approve of such precision.

I guess... I'm just not sure what the miscategorization is.

That record was a massive hit with hip-hop audiences at the time... is your issue that it postdates the b-boy era, or what?

alot of the 80s 'bangers' mentioned in this thread are sounding a little overplayed.

'touch of jazz' is def one.

    How about some Gap Band?
    - Outstanding
    - You Dropped A Bomb On Me
    - Burn Rubber

For some reason I like the album cut so much better than the "Outstanding" 12" version.

    How about:

Chaka and Rufus "Close the Door"
    Dazz Band "Let It Blow"

It's one of those "can't lose" records, though, isn't it? It's got an extra degree of familiarity right now on the back of that Kirk Franklin joint as well. I love me some Patrice, but a lot of her classic shit (or at least my favourites) is on more of a mid-tempo vibe - "Remind Me", "Feels So Real", "Forget Me Nots" - or the real slow shit like "Before The Dawn" and "Settle For My Love". "Number One" is a goodie, though. I ought to break that one out a little more often.

80's banger, people lose it when you drop this for reals! People have asked for encore's. More of an 80's tune though.

    True - CANT LOSE.

The Kirk Franklin might have helped, but Haven't You Heard has been played on Local Black NYC Radio since it came out. It never died out.

    I like that song.

Why is the 80's not Disco/Funk or DiscoFunk.

No Parking On The Dance Floor fills all the catagories IMO. Where is the cutoff point for cats. U could get technical, BUT......?

Ah, well, there's a perspective I didn't have before. Over here, it's been a club standard for ages, but not really a radio fixture.

It's just a lame genre term that hipsters were throwing around a few years ago.

On one occasion, crazypoprock tried to explain to me that I was misunderstanding the fundamental nature of "disco not disco".

  • Prince - Lady Cab Driver

that song needs it's own monthly post...best mixture of live/drum machine drumes ever

  • disco/funk =calendar

I don't think anyone has mentioned Earth Wind & Fire - Brazilian Rhyme yet.
    I really like Danny Krivit's edits. http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/0/0/12401.html
Do you consider this a disco/funk banger?
